So I had to replace my axle last week and my car was down for pretty much 9 days (it turned out to be more than just an axle). I couldn't get the axle out easily because it was rusted in so I used a long piece of wood to press it against the brake pedal and use the seat for pressure.
When I finally got done with fixing and went out for a drive, the brakes didn't feel normal. It used to feel very stiff and the brakes bit when the pedal wasn't even to the ground. Now, I'm almost to the floor and the brakes feel very sloppy and sluggish. It also bites very late.
Why does this happen? I just bled the brakes not too long ago and it's the same... I only replaced the strut and axle on the front-right of the car. Never touched any of the other corners.

Well, you could have a bad master cylinder (unlikely). So, and I don't know how you did it, but that leaves air in the system. Why were you needing to lock the brakes - axle nut?
Seized axle. Took a long time to get it off the hub but it finally came out.

I had one stuck on my subie. I was looking at the end of the axle and there's this cone shaped hole in the end where the axle stub was on a lathe when being made. That looked like a good place for the pointed tool on my air chisel. The axle started moving as soon as I pulled the trigger. Air tools, gotta love them. Originally Posted by benwara

This was the front axle back when I had to replace the clutch. It didn't go well... Didn't take a pic of the current one but I can tell you I used the nut to keep it from mushrooming. End result is I broke 2 of those tools and damaged 3 of my lug nuts.....
Anyways, my brakes still feel weird after flushing the ENTIRE system. I used the ATE blue brake fluid to know if the entire system is flushed and all my brakes bleed blue now but there's somehow still air in the system.
I remember when I was bleeding the front left nipple on the back, I was watching the tube and the fluids was going into the catch can (or bottle). The other 7 nipples never did this and I thought this wasn't good. Like air gets into the system when I tighten down the nipple.

wow don't know what to say about that axle.
maybe watch a video about bleeding brakes on youtube. It's not hard but you definetly have to do it right.
