DS2500 & EBC Yellow user input
Hello-
So i narrowed my search for brake pads & I am strongly considering the DS2500 & EBC Yellow pads for my +600whp DD. I put ~18-20k miles a year on my car. 100% DD @ city/fwy/city => city/canyon/city is my typical daily commute, to & from work.
When i am on the empty canyon roads, it's basically a qualifying lap.
I have had 2 sets of ds2500's, but i have always been looking for something a bit cleaner. The cold bite, very low noise, awesome braking feel imo, is what keeps me coming back to the ds2500's.
I am currently on et800's & they are ok, but noisy with low pedal pressure & I didnt care for my ebc reds, for a little background reference.
I am looking to hear from direct users of DS2500's & EBC Yellow pads on their evo 8/9.
Please list your likes / dislikes of either of the 2 pads you tried & ~whp of your car.
Thanks for your input

Aby,
I have had the EBC yellow stuff pads on my Evo 8 for about 4 months now. Bought because of Smike's recommend.
I do have DBA 4000 series rotors about 3 years old IIRC. I had them resurfaced before the install. Yes you can re-surface slotted rotors.. I also have SSlines and car is running 255/40-17 Star specs that are 2/3 worn. Car is self tuned to ~300-310 whp using Ecuflash. Evo 8 Mr 6spd.
Overall:
Pads have a nice firm feel. They work well when cold, lots of initial bite. I have done several back road runs ( spirited <koff> ;-) ) and found they stop well when warm but i got a little fade. This might be due to the fluid not being changed in quite awhile though ( about 2 years ).
The yellows have the break-in compound that EBC uses to help them bed in. It burnishes the rotor too during the process. The breakin took about 3 weeks of gentle braking nothing hard as EBC specified that. I found that the dusting during that period was moderate, but dust was quite black. Requires washing. After the breakin period you will notice much less dust, and it is browner in color.
I have noticed a nice even transfer layer all around the rotors ( both front and rear ). No sign of any issues with inconsistent transfer layer causing shudder or apparent imbalance. There is no noise whatsoever from the pads, hot or cold. I had the shop that did the install use the shims that came with the new pads. no silicone or copper paste on the pins or anywhere.
I am happy with the pads. If I wanted a step up I would go to the EBC blues which can also be used on the street. Smike seemed to think so as well.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.

For the heavier Evo (like my Mustang), Blues are great. Serious bite on my Mustang. After 1k of DD. Rotors look good. Wheels are clean.
Ive had my ds2500 for a year now and i daily drive my car 80miles a day same power boat as you, only thing i hate is the break dust and the noise when breaking on low pedal. But when you need to stop even on shot rotors the bite is there! i was thinking of trying the girodics break pads, ive heard there really good.

I had Yellows on my Evo when it was STU (autox) class with 265whp and took it to the track on 245 RE01Rs and melted the fronts. They overheated like crazy and started chunking. When I emailed EBC, the rep told me that they're not good for track use on anything heavier than ~2200lb and sent me Blues. I used the Blues from 265whp up to 450whp (Mustang #s) on 245 street tires and 285 race tires and they had awesome cold bite and never faded, both on track and autocrossing. I used them until they were worn out and never had any complaints.
I loved the DS2500. They were the only pad that could cope with my track days, but I've had to go with track only pads now as I got to the point of melting them even with brake ducts at the track.
If you're not tracking your car I don't see the expense for these worth it. The performance friction would work just fine. Ran a set of those as well and loved them, but they didn't stand up at the track.

Of all the pads I've used I have never experiened brake squeal. The only time I would experience some noise is if they brakes were cold and rusted from a recent rain. Also, I never keep my foot on the brake pedal when I come to a stop.
