Why the hell do my tires pick up so many rocks?

Ok so I am running the stock wheels with the stock Advans. My car is NOT lowered at all and has no suspension work done. Since it is winter over here and thank god they don't sale the roads... They do however put little rocks down all over for better traction. Everytime I take the Evo out in the snow the god for saken tires kick up so many damn rocks. I mean litterally you can here tons of little rocks just being kicked up. I am assuming it is because these Advans are really soft tires hence the good traction? Because my girlfriends Mustang has standard tires on it and when we drive it in the snow you honestly can't even here one rock at all because the tires don't pick them up. Does this bother anyone else? If I get some snow tires will they do this?

Chris

OMG, I really hope you are not driving in the snow on the stock tires. Do a search on this topic. Hope you have money saved up to fix the car when you ditch it or rearend someone.

The reason you pick up rocks is because these tires are softer, therefore stickier than your gf's mustang tires.

First off I am not stupid. I would NOT drive in the snow in these tires. I know first hand they suck in the snow. These rocks they put on the road remain on the road even after the snow has melted until they clean them up. Second of all I won't need any money saved up to fix the car because I won't be ditching it or rearending anyone. My car has 3m clear shiled on almost the entire car therefore even it 13k it doesnt even have a single damn rock chip on it.

To give you a much more suddle answer, yes you are correct you are picking up all the rocks becuase of the soft tread on your tires. Honestly all you can do is drive slow and try to stay in the best lines on the road to pick up less rocks. The tires are great and do what you can but it is frustrating becuase they throw the **** down but never clean it up! Be careful going down the highway becuase dumb *** truck drives kick that **** up and it will get your windshild or rear spoiler if you aren't careful. The 3m is a great idea so good move there. Be safe

Well, you are contradicting yourself now. Maybe you made a typo in your initial thread:

You can understand why I replied the way I did, right?

You can also install mud flaps. That will help in keeping the rocks off the side of your car.

Yeah I mean in my original post that I take it out in the snow it is just not on the roads. They plow all the roads and hence there is snow everywhere else just not on the roads. Sorry if I made that unclear. I don't know if I would even need mudflaps because it isn't putting rock chips anywhere on the car I think they are just hitting inside the wheel well. Its just the noise that is really annoying. Thank god it hardly every snows here though

Your assumption is correct - it's because of the soft rubber compound. Snows wont' be as bad, but they still may pick up cinders if that's what they use in your area. I just put on Blizzak LM-22's and haven't noticed nearly as much grit getting picked up. Then again, it's been about 0 degrees here recently.

The softer tread compound and its tread design alow for more debris pickup while driving. Dont even drive them in cold conditions. There dosent have to be snow on the ground for you to get into trouble

The dealership owner came out and gave me some fatherly advice on the vehicle when I picked up my Evo (which was quite funny, b/c I'm 40 and he looked to be about late 40's). While he said absolutely no driving with the stock tires in the snow, he also said there was a good possibility that the tires would "chunk" if driven in colder temperatures , meaning that rather sizable pieces of tread could break off from the tire if the temperatures reached down below freezing. I ordered my snows that day.
