Caliper Piston Removal Question
Caliper Piston Removal Question
I'm getting ready to replace the front caliper seals on my evo9. Got it from the subaru site everyone recommended for the brembo seals. I know I can get it out with an air compressor but since I don't have one what other options do I have to remove them?
1. Can I remove caliper off of rotor and pump the brake pedal to "pop" them out?
OR
2. Will a tire/air compressor work if I can somehow get it to fit properly?

Option 1 will definitely work, but you will create a gigantic mess and most likely introduce air into a lot more parts of your brake system.
Option 2 is your best bet. It will hardly take any pressure at all to get them to pop out.
Make sure to wrap the caliper with a rag or towel to prevent brake fluid splatter.
Good luck!

Yes I do have a friend who has one but our schedule differs and it needed to be done ASAP... When I hear compressor I always thought of the big ones never thought about using tire compressor which I just did and with the right adaptor got it to fit properly... Though only one came out... The others I had to safely pry off
Trick is to use a block of wood that is the right thickness to get all the pistons to pop out. Also, I'm surprised. No one said grease gun. Add a grease fitting and pump away. It's a mess but gets it done.
I was thinking of popping all fours but wasnt sure if it'll do harm or not... maybe when i do the rears i'll use a thinner block... i used a 2x4
