Tires for Texas?

Hello All,
I just recently moved to Dallas from Chicago in June and have no ideas how winters are. The evo is my dd and wondering if I can get away with summer tires or if I should think about all-season tires. I'm thinking about Sumitomo HTR Z III for $133 at Tirerack (Max Performance Summer) or Continental ExtremeContact DWS for $159 for All-Season (Ultra High Performance All-Season). Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, especially from those familiar with Dallas winters! Thanks!

Check out the NTEC area. Good group of people there.

I'd look at Goodyear Asymmetric and Asymmetric 2s, Conti DW (no S), or one of the other similar tires for that region.

Really depends on the weather. If you'll be in an area where temps can consistently be below 40 deg you may want to think about an all season tire. The a/s options will also last longer and ride a bit better, but summer options will handle and respond better in the wheel.

For those wondering, I joined the NTEC section and they have been a great help. They recommended Summer tires year round for the Dallas area. I recommend the NTEC sub-group for local Texan Evo owners!

Yeh, it gets cold and occasionally we get a severe ice warning, but it's only for a day or two! Summer tires ftw.

take note, its trickier to drive here when/if it snows since they rarely spread salt. sometimes they spread a mix of salt and sand.
