I read Matt saying they dont fit perfectly on the rotor
Hmmm. I don't remember that one. The Ferrodos should be a sure fit, they've been making that pad for a while. Unless I momentarily confused you guys with the STi, which in that case the pads would be too thick (16mm for Evo, 14mm for STi)

Edit: I think you're refering to those that tried to use Hawk's Ferrari F40/F50 pad for the Evo. Yeah, that doesn't work so well...

Oh, ok. You're right. It was the Hawks you were talking about. I read the STi boards a lot so I might have confused it with that too. I remember you talking about the pad thickness.

On a side note, I tried more brake quiet like we talked about on the phone and checked for the lip on the top. The pad is a perfect fit and doesnt overlap for me. It's still extremely noisy. The stopping power is awesome, but it's accompanied with one heckuva lot of noise.

I just got off the phone with larry at carbotech ** owner** and he was awesome to talk to ** 40 min convo** I was real pissed off at EVOM.net

I was greeted and I said I would like to oder some pads and was asked what vehical. I told him EVO and he was like ooooooooooooohhhhhhh man. See this ****'s me off this board is ****ing on such a great company that your all making the evo look bad and a great company tired of the car. ITs gona go down like this for all the BOBCAT owners. If your pads are defective ** chunking or falling apart** u will be shipped new pads or refunded but if u are *****ing about a squeel well your will have to deal with it or go to another company. NO buis can refund people there money just for a simple noise. The pads work right "YES" So whats is there to refund they held up there end.

Larry has left it up to distributers on FRI it will be know if the bobcat will still be offered for the EVO.

Look at the STI it has the same breaking system as our cars but the pads are alittle thinner and the rotors are a bit thicker some a verry few experiance the noise that most here are complaing about.

The EVO has same sytem but thinner rotor and thicker pad when the pressure is applied it is causing some harmonics and little bit of vibration and this is what is causing the noise. It's not s mitsu's fault and its not carbotechs fault they just dont mesh perfect.

So rather than **** all over a great company and hurt the great buis of carbotech just buy a different pad or go to another brand. Quit ****ing bad mouthing a great company. Cause your ****ing up products for the rest of us.

IF U DONT LIKE THE BIG AND SMALL PROBLEMS THAT ARISE FROM MODDING, THEN DONT ****ING MOD AT ALL. IF U WANT HIGHPERFORMANCE U HAVE TO SACRIFICE SOMETIMES SO DEAL WITH IT. OR GET THE **** OUT OF THE GAME

Carbotech has been great for me in teh past and still today with my evo I got all my ?'s answered and found the right pad for my needs and for my driving style I got the panther plus and I dont care if they squeel or dust cause I know they will a bit from my prior cars all I care about is breaking

Thank U carbotech for all your help and great service and please dont loose faith in the EVO just cause of some bandwagon haters

Chris

Hey CaCalomino, They were great to me when i ordered them also. I felt like i just talked to my best buddy! Just dont expect a whole lot after the money changes hands. It was like i was talking to a completely different company, I too could live with the noise only! but they dont stop any better and they dust just as bad!Good luck with your pads!

So.. I guess Carbotech is not taking these back. Bummer.

Here is a vid of my car with the Carbotechs on them. Please watch and enjoy. And the exhaust I have on is a Buschur SCCA legal catback - just in case you wanted to ask after watching this.

Jansolo,

Thank you for posting that video! Seriously. Finally we at least all know exactly what you are talking about. I was beginning to think people were experiencing something really out of the ordinary. Amazing to think that some people thought that was justification for a class-action lawsuit.

Anyways, high-performance brakes almost always bring with them some squeal under light braking. I don't see what the big deal is. The level of noise you're experiencing doesn't seem unusual at all for h-p pads. My (worthless) advice: brake harder or go back to stock.

I don't quite see what the deal is. They squeal? Why not just try a different set or brand of pads?

Carbotech makes very good pads. They didn't get where they are by making crap. And most high-performance pads sacrifice cold stopping power for defense against fade, and most high-performance pads squeal to some degree.

You more likely would have been better off calling Carbotech and discussing than airing dirty laundry on a message board. Judging by your complaints, I would think you either improperly bedded them or otherwise did something incorrect during installation. And this is why I wouldn't install something essential to safety like brake components. I would just take it to a professional so you guarantee a job well done. For what it's worth, I hope you get down to the root cause of the problem.

I'm a little confused on this. I have these bobcats and it's been a little snowy here so I haven't had much time to stop hard on them. But mine don't squeal when I use them lightly, they only squeal when I stop hard. What's up with that?

I think you're missing the point kinda... we know that hi-po pads will generate much more squeal, but the Bobcats are NOT marketed as a track pad. They have the Panther Plus/XP for those applications - now if these guys got the Panthers and then were complaining about brake squeal, I could see how it would be a problem...

Basically, the Bobcats are marketed as an alternative street pad to the stock Brembos. They are supposed to dust less, be more rotor friendly (we know how the stock pads eat up the rotors), and are supposed to provide better performance (Matt recommended these as a street/autox pad) with minimal squeal. I think the point is that they're not getting the product they thought they were getting, and as Coolguy suggested, if they were to have brake squeal they might as well be using the Panther pads instead...

Though I am kind of bummed about the situation, cause I was gonna get Bobcats myself sometime... sorry to hear about the situation guys, hopefully you'll come to a resolution soon. I guess that means back to Ferrodos ($$!) ?

Great video

That video is great for giving everyone a common point of reference.

As CACalomino has pointed out, you always have trade-offs when modifying a vehicle, or using high performance parts. Hell, the Evo itself is a trade-off over other, more tame vehicles.

What I find annoying, and yes, I realize it's common, but dammit it shouldn't be, is the way manufacturers make claims about their products that simply aren't true.

In Carbotech's case, they claim "Bobcat offers outstanding performance when cold, very low dusting, and low noise with an excellent initial bite." I'm don't believe that video is demonstrating a product that could be described as "low noise". It sounds like Popeye the Sailor Man is rolling large in the Evo.

If manufacturers would be a bit more truthful in the representation of their products, either by being more realistic in their claims, or list the drawbacks, then I think some of the newbs wouldn't have such unrealistic expectations of the products. Manufacturers need to realize if they pump up these products with overly positive advertising then they're going to be setting up some customers for disappointment - they've made the choice of the sale over the satisified customer.

I’m unclear as to what it was exactly you set out to accomplish with the above comment? I gather you didn’t attain your own goal with all the *****ing and moaning that followed in subsequent threads. I believe Rob got his point across by stating that the pads are noisy as hell and that he is in dialogue with carbotech to resolve his issue.

First of all, comments like yours all that will accomplish is to unfairly tarnish the reputation of the guys at carbotech, driving away potentially new customers who never got the chance to ascertain their own conclusions as to whether carbotech’s products and service were above or below par. This harm might be permanent. All thanks to you jansolo. Not only is this child-like, but it is mean. If this was the goal you set out reach, congratulations. I hope you are happy. Secondly, what does a thread like this do to our forum? I believe nothing positive and all negative. What picture does this thread draw in the mind of guests and other members, Is this thread a good representation of where the moderators want this message board to go? Notice how this thread deteriorated after your comment? Do you realize that this thread has been hit over 3,000 times?

Well, I’m not sealing carbotech’s fate based on your unfortunate experience and the biased comments that followed. I hope others won’t either. I guess I’ll judge this for my self and thanks to rob’s suggestion I might as well just get the Panther +’s and balance out some of the squealing with the added benefit of better braking at the track.

Yes, I did call Carbotech - TWICE. If you had read my posts, you would have realized that when I specifically said "I called Larry and offered to send him a clip of my car making noise". But now that you are on your pedestal..

If a company fails to help out their customers when they politely ask, and just so you know, I am not the only person who had issues with their Bobcat pads, then why can I not make a post venting my frustration with their lack of action? They decided they didn't want to help out in any way - no refund, no trade in offered - nothing. And suddenly I am supposed to be feel bad for a company that tells me I am screwed? Look, I never said their products were bad for other cars, I just specifically said their products were bad for the Evo. I never even mentioned the problems Matt and Larry told me they were experiencing with the STI and 350z track edition. I even said my friends had them on their cars and love them, hence why I decided to go with them.

Next time anyone is dissatisfied with any products, you should make it your goal to let them know no matter what, that you don't feel like hearing it and that they should talk to company first - just like I did (twice I might add). You need to stay consistant and preach your gospel of supporting companies that do not support their customers.

And for every vendor you lose, another one pops up because in the end, they all just want your money, not your friendship - your money. And who knows - maybe this vendor might actually see the negative actions that happens when you don't try to make your customer happy and try to support them better next time. Yep, letting companies make products that don't live up to their own marketing claims should not be tolerated. For some reasons, others disagree. If the products were going to produce this kind of noise and I had known in advance - as in the company had stated it on their web site (and had they actually tested the pad on the Evo, it would say that), I wouldn't be complaining - but it is doing the opposite of what they claimed. Combine that with their inaction, and you will find the root of the issue I have with this company.

But I have moved on.

Thanks for the lecture and I hope you feel better now.

hi everyone, i don't post much but i have to this time, i have a set of bobcats for my evo frnt and back, IMO, is worst then the stock pads, the loud noise is nothing i have heard before in other cars, if i do like 3X 120-20 breaking, u will hear this loud metal rubbing against metal sound and the brake seem to overheat, and if i finish going to a car wash, the brake will be non-exist for 10min because water get in between the pads and rotor, and the pads are not friendly to rotor, is eating my stock rotor up like carzy, i donno if i got a defected pads or not, but is not normal i can tell u, me and my friend go to tracks a lot and he use to be a in a race team, he say the pads sucks too, i am now looking for new pads and i am not even brother talking to carbontech knowing what they r going to say from what i have heard on the broad, the bottom line is they r pulling the pads off the market for the evo, therefor is must be something wrong with it and it didn't proform like was it advertised, low brake noise, low dust and friendly to the stock rotor. I am willing to send the pads back for them to study it and see what went wrong, but i don't think they will do that, u brought it, thanks for ur business, don't call back! comment maddmatt?

the other (reputable) vendors dont seem to have too much trouble with customer issues....

"not gonna happen after bull**** like this?"

this is the first time a vendor is threatening the people who bought the prodcut...mine are now being used as paperweights, since the people who have them are ALL WILLING TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE TO THE BETTER BRAND FROM CARBOTECH..but are you not hearing that?
