DWs - how quiet?
DWs - how quiet?
Hi folks. Im posting from my phone, so please forgive all the formatting issues.
Killed the V12s in less than 12k. Need tires. Debating betwen anther set of Hankooks or the Continentals.
I have one question. How quiet are the Continentals in terms of tire noise?

I have a post somewhere a while back but i forget the actual numbers
smooth, new asphalt I dropped ~10 decibel's (using an iphone app sitting on the passenger seat). i measured for ~4-5days on my trip to work before switching tires and the average was 90-92. after getting the new tires the average was mid 80's so on average it'll probably be 5-8 decibels lower. rough street won't be much quieter, it's just not the nature of the car.
i am also full 3", resonated test pipe. stock exhaust will be quieter
i'm happy with the tires. did well in the snow (had ~6 inches here, was ****ty and frozen though not fluffy) and they do well on the dry. i dunno if i'd autox them as the sidewalls are probably a bit soft for that, but as a daily commuter tire they've done their job for me (and they wear very well). i've had them 12k miles now

Back behind a real keyboard! After I posted and thought about the mileage, I guess I killed the V12s in ~9,500 (~15-20 auto-x runs, the rest street). Adding this as a data point.
I'm not unhappy with the V12s. I don't love them, not like the OEM Advans, not even on the same planet, but they do offer some advantages. The DWs are tempting, because I haven't owned them and it's fun to try something new, and they are light. Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

After thinking about the options, I ordered another set of the V12s. The DWs were tempting. I really like their light weight. Ultimately, though, I decided that I'd rather run a tire I know. The way I use the car, predictability is crucial. Thanks again, everyone, for taking the time to comment.
^ I'd agree. The DWS wouldn't be an ideal tire to AutoX with at any serious level. I bought mine because I daily and I wanted the tires to last more than a year before I had to replace them
Sorry, I should have been more clear. I don't auto-x that often and it's not terribly important to me. I wrote DWs as a plural of DW. All-seasons weren't really an option. I actually sat here debating between the V12s and the DW. It came down to familiarity, though, saving ~$200 didn't hurt, either.

i almost bought the dw's, but after suffering thru the diabolical ill handling of the dws's, i just couldnt and went with pilot super sports. no complaints, they are pretty much what you expect. 90% star spec grip with a softer sidewall and much better in the rain and ride dept.
DW's are probably the best wet street tire for auto-x but the weird thing about them is they dont care much if its dry or 4" of standing water. Theyll grip the same. At least that was my perspective driving them on a snow/hail downpour to drying conditions. My best run was in the water like the groove in the tire was a rutter. Seriously amazing when it comes to wet!
Noise, they are pretty darn quiet. The downside I've noticed to mine are the sponge like sidewalls. Running them at 35psi and they followed all the ruts ( -3.5* camber front and -2.0* rear) and feel like they have no, uhh, feel. Cranked them up to 40psi and they feel pretty fantastic.
One more praise for them, they put power down like you wont believe. Im guessing the softer sidewall helps that but even in the wet with my measly 330hp pushing through corners I struggle to get them to really break loose like the old tires.
