Can someone explain to me what does + 30, or +40 mean when talking about wheel offset.

How do I know will it clear the calipers?

there are a ton factors to offset....it all depends on wheel type. 0 offset theoretically would be the farthest the rim can sit off the hub. so the bigger number you go would would pull the rim closer towards the hub, if that makes any sense to you.
