squeeky brakes

my brakes have been squeeking just a bit lately, and I am wondering if this is due to pad wear, or because it's so cold out, hell is about to freeze over.

I have almost 12k miles on the Evo, and certainly a fair amount of spiritied driving (very little track time), but I don't think I should have gone through a set of pads already... Especially considering that I have been driving very conservitively because it's the winter....

any thought?

It's normal to have a squeek every now and then but not all the time. Take a peek at the pads. If they look low replace them. If they still have a good chunk don't worry about it.

I am getting a fair amount of squeeking as well...I have alittle over 300 miles and I know that my pads aren't worn yet...I would attribute the noise to the cold weather...it's been single digits in the chicagoland area lately and that's when I have noticed the noise...

hope this helps...

I've been getting a loud squeaking from my rear (i think) brakes when backing out of the driveway lately. It never really does it after that, so I would guess the cold is to blame as well.

single digits?
bah! -21 F w/o windchill on the way into work.
something like -50 with windchill last night...

talking to a couple of local Evo owners, I think the cold is the culprit here...

I live in nor cal where temps haven't gone lower than 50 and average 65, but I'm also getting squeals from 5mph-0 off and on.

i think there is a TSB for the squeaky brakes, if you take it to the dealer you can have it adjusted. Mine squeaks a bit, but i can barely hear it cause i have the damn radio on too loud.

Trigeek - You might want to pull your pads out and check them. My stock pads were about 70% gone when I pulled them at 11K.
