EBC recently shipped me a set of OrangeStuff pads to test on my 2011 STX/TTC prepped "daily driver".

I've had the BlueStuff pads for autocross and daily driving use for a while. Tried them in road racing and they did not hold up for the speeds/tracks. Blues cracked and melted at a 135 mph to 80 mph corner entry. Lacking confidence and took a lot of pedal pressure (and it was unexpected).

For AX and DD, BlueStuff do well. And I recommend them for that. For road racing, I would go with a different pad.

OrangeStuffs are their toughest pads.

Brake coefficient is 0.5 rising to 0.6 under load and temperature.

Out of the box cold stops have a little less bite than before. However, once bedded they have come to life and have more feel and bite than the BlueStuff pads in cold stops.

Yes, no backing plates. No, they are not needed - seriously.









9/3/12 is the Grattan Raceway autocross. Uses the road course and is hard on brakes. Will update after that event.

Street Review:

Pros: Good cold initial bite and cold pedal feel once bedded. Nice linear grip when stopping or slowing down. No noises. Good highway speed stopping power. Notably more than I felt on the Blues.

Cons: Soft pedal feel after repeated hard stops. Still slows the vehicle; just changes the pedal feel from firm to softer.

Blue to Orange?
Right now, everything Orange is better than the Blues. More cold and hot bite. No noise. BlueStuff pads once hot squealed. These pads hot/cold/wet do not. Very impressed with just that change. Dust is light and easy to remove. Came off last night when washing with very little effort.

The "daily driver" you mention is your 2011 Mustang, correct? What's the curb weight on the car in it's current form?

I'm surprised these have better initial bite (when bedded) than the even the Bluestuff. How does the initial bite compare to a pure street bad like the Red/Yellows?

Correct, 2011 Mustang. The Grattan AX is almost a track day. Racing my CMC car for the remainder of this season.

3630 with 1/2 tank of gas from my last TT weigh in.

Closer bite to the Reds actually. The Yellows came to life when hot.

Nice, looking forward to your track results with these pads. I am still running the EBC Blue stuff pads I put on my car 2 yrs ago. I don't daily the car, but I have been driving it a lot more this year than last year (3k miles since April). As of right now the only complaint I have about the Blue stuff pads is the brake dust & getting it off. Always enjoy checking out your reviews Smike!

This dust came right off my black Performance Package wheel set (gloss black and machined lips). Derr...forgot - those ones in the photos

600-750 miles on this setup right now. Rotors look new. Not scoring or heat checked. Noticed that when washing the car last night. Expected to see more wear. Does not seem to be the case.

Why is it always so hard to find operating temps when looking at pads?

From what I've gathered 200-1750F.

I'm still using EBC Yellow for track days, and have been keeping them on longer for DD as well. It's making me think, god forbid, that these can possibly be used for dual purpose DD and track days.

I was going to try the Blues, but after this review, I might give the Orange pads a go once these Yellow pads are done. Thanks Smike!

Would you recommend these over Stoptech Street? I don't really auto-X the car and don't track it. I like the stoptechs, they don't squeal at me and they bite well for what I use them for, but they are still dusty..

AKA PBR Axxis ULTs. One of my favorite pads actually. Have them on my Ralliart.

Still going to be dusty. Little more cold bite on Oranges. And more high heat ability.

Smike, what are your thoughts on Girodisc Magic Pads for a DD?

Their marketing mumbo-jumbo claims: no noise, no dust and decent life...

No braking bite either. Not a good pad if you like brakes.
