17x10 question with RS3
17x10 question with RS3
For you autocrosser's out there. Quick question. It seems that the RS3 likes wider wheels because of the "somewhat" soft sidewalls. Obviously it helps with turn-in and response. Since the RS3 in 255/40/17 is a cheater tire and tends to run in the 265-275 width range, would it be beneficial to run a 10" wide wheel on something like an RPF1? Curious, and want thoughts and opinions. thanks. FYI I am limited to 140 treadwear tires, but not requirements on width (no its not SCCA).
they dont have 265's in 17's for rs3 based on tirerack.
but i dont think that was the question at hand. if you can get the 10" and 255 to fit on the car then i think it would be beneficial. but no one setup works for everyone.

17x10 with a 255 shouldnt be much of an issue at all. 5mm spacer on the rear should keep you off the arm, i dont think the front will have any issue, it only moves 5-6mm farther in board than the 9.5. but i dont know if something like a 275 would fit without coilovers.
the 17x9.5 +38 probably could have gotten away without a roll even.

I've been running 245/40/17 on a 9.5" wheel this season. It's a little stretched but it was a huge improvement over running that tire on the stock 8" wide wheels. 255 would be even better I would think. I don't think you would need to go to a 10" wide wheel at all, especially after looking at the above photo that killerpenguin21 posted.

I'm running a 215 RS3 on an 8.5 wheel on a BMW and they are awesome. I hate the look of the stretch, but the turn-in is awesome and the grip is excellent. A 255 on a 10" rim is less of a stretch and should feel great.
those are the +38's (maybe the +15 in the front) needs 20mm spacer in front if you go +38. with a 245 you probably dont need to roll honestly. with a 255 or bigger youll need a roll and probably 5mm spacer in the rear to get off the control arm, and it may not be doable without coilovers up front.
I'm running 3.2F/1.8R camber, 25mm spacer in the front and a 5mm spacer in the rear
My car has had the fenders rolled/pulled since like 60 sets of wheels ago
first thing you should do if you plan on tracking, I hate when people go "I don't wanna roll my fenders", yeah stop being gay.

i cracked the paint on one side, but it will be easily fixable. to be honest, my combo fit without rolling, including one track day, but i did it anyone figuring ill wind up on a bigger setup eventually.
any reason you did only 245's and not 255's?

@ 888. Nice pic of the Big Willow in the back That place eats my left outside front tire every damn time.
But interesting, but not surprising about this thread and that comment, is I was using a 255 NT01 on my stock BBSs.
Probably a little ambitious. I have another thread about the problems I had with uneven wear. Do you find the RS3 sidewall 'soft' as mentioned above? I am in the middle of deciding on what to try next, and it won't be 255 NT01s.
