piston rod lock nut loosened?

before reading the service manual, i used an impact to remove the top hat of my MR Bilstein rear strut. how would i know if the "piston rod lock nut" has loosened? or could i? and could it be why, after my spring install, the rear of the car is now higher than it was with the stock MR springs?

Which springs did you install? Did you get the lower spring mounting hat orientated correctly?

Silver piece here:

Skunk 2, yup. springs are perched correctly. rear sits higher than it did with OEM springs. not happy about it. the front lowered a little over an inch, though. came out nice.

i just went out and loosened all the lower arm control nuts/bolts, weighted the car, then re-torqued.

i did notice that the Skunk 2 rear spring was taller than the OEM one i removed. i thought that was kinda weird.

Well there you have it. Unless the new spring has a much lower spring rate (softer) than the OEM springs which you dont want anyway, then it is going to sit higher. Ive never seen springs that are actually taller than the OEM ones.

If i were you I'd try and sell the springs you have and put back on either the OEM springs or a set or Gtworx, Robispec or Swift

yeah. these were NIB for a good price and i'm not worried about all-out performance from a springs, so i figured it would be fine. nope. LOL.

i'll toss the stock springs back on until i order something else. LAME.

Skunk2 customer service is baffled as well. i have never seen a lowering spring be taller than OEM either.

Did you buy the springs from a company or 3rd party?

Hopefully you can return them. Im not sure how good Skunk2 customer service is but they should take them back IMO

I understand you may not care about all out performance, and were buying them for the looks but with the 3 brands of springs I mentioned, you are essentially killing two (or even three) birds with one stone. They all drop the car about an inch, all will add a little performance to the handling of the car, and all will give a good ride. Just my .02

I bought them from a member here, nib. they were as promised and came with everything besides instructions. part number match up. so, unfortunately, no returns for me. the only idea Skunk2's tech support came up with irs that I didn't cut the bump stops. I think we all know the car is in no way resting on the stops.
these springs were cheap and should have worked....no way I could have foreseen this happening otherwise I obviously would have gone another route. when I did research on these, I came across no issues such as this.
sadly, my stock springs are long gone, so I'm stuck until I pony up for another set. lame.
