255/40/18?

Hello all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't really find a deffinat answer. I'm currently running an 18x9.5 rim et27 with a 245/40 width tire for daily driving. I'll be needing new tires this spring and I wanted to know if a 255/40/18 tire would work well with daily driving or should I just stick with the 245.
Sorry again if this has already been asked 1000 times.

Thx,
J

Daily driver - doesn't matter.

245/40R18 is closer to the OEM 235/45R17 rolling diameter. And its lighter and likely cheaper.

You should always wash your numbers through a good wheel/tire calc to see what you have & what youll end up with

Running a 255 on your set-up will do the following: .2" more poke / .2" closer to suspension & approx .3" taller

If your rear fenders can handle the larger rubber w/out rub I say go for the 255's

I'd stick with the 245's you already know fit. The difference in looks and performance isn't worth the potential rubbing risk. I've seen some use 255's without issues and others have rubbing. Just depends on the individual car.

I currently run a 265/35 on a 18x9.5 +27 because I listened to everyone who said "I run this tire without any rubbing". I rolled the rears and did an EvoDave in the front and it still rubs like crazy. To make it rub-free I'd need a Perrin offset PSRS and I need to relocate the rear bumper tab.

If you're not tracking the car and you're happy with how it looks on the 245 I'd keep them, because getting a fat tire to 'not rub at all' is a pain.

I'm on the stock suspension so I would think that it would clear but i understand your point. I just thought wider would be better as long as it fits but I never see people using 255/40/18. I always see 245/40/18 or 255/35/18. From what I've read, 255/35/18 will be really hard on the rims of a DD evo so that's why I'm trying to stay with 40's.

Look at weight difference between the sizes. Stick with the 245s.
