Wheels and Tires???

I currently have 17x9.5 +20 wheels on my evo 9 with 235/45/17 tires. I was debating about getting new tires. What would be the best for these wheels? I was thinking 255/40/17. What you guys think the best size is for these wheels? Thanks.

I'd love to help you out however your question is a little vague. Please define "best" i.e. what are your goals for the car? There is no one "best" size as everything comes with benefits as well as sacrifices.

235 is too stretched and even a 245 is a little stretched however is doable. A good size would be either a 255/265/275 all 40 sidewalls.

Keep in mind the wider the tire, the more issues you may have with fitment between the fenders and suspension components. Given your aggressive offset I would venture a guess that you will run into rubbing issues with the body before your suspension components though.

You really need to give us more info first though so we can recommend the best size given your qualifications.

I would go with 255/40/17 as the overall diameter is on par with the stock 235/45/17. Do you have any rubbing issues with your setup?

that's a pretty aggressive setup. you might need to take fender clearance into consideration for your setup.

if fender clearance isn't an issue, i'd go with a 265/40/17. that size is only off by .02 inches in diameter from stock and is closer to the stock diameter than 255/40/17.

Keep in mind that tire size will vary from brand to brand, for example Starsepcs and feddys will run roughly 10mm wide of their advertised size. Give us a little more information as to what you are looking to do with the car.

Best as for dd. I never track my car. Its a dd and always will be. What I meant as best was looks and performance. I am also dropped on Tein S Tech Springs. I want a very aggressive look.

17x9.5 +20 and 255s aren't going to fit well unless you pull the rear fenders. I run 17x9.5 +24 with 255 and its really close. On a hard curb at the track, it would scrap ever so slightly...just brushing the tires.

I wouldn't go any wider than the 255. Our 17x9.5 with 18mm offset comes right to fenders edge when using a 255. Some people can get away with slight camber adjustments, others fender lip roll with that combo.

This sound about right^^^

+20 a terrible offset for any stock bodied EVO8/9 IMO. Most guys run the stretch & roll-in severe negative camber to fit. Even at +25 you would be looking at a roll/pull & bumper bolt to make it right in my book

I do have all my fenders rolled. Right now I have no issue with rubbing.

If your question stopped at the highlighted part, I would say just leave your stock wheels/tires on.

As far as what "looks" best is a matter of personal taste. What "works" best performance wise is running the narrowest tire you can without overheating it. Everybody likes running big meats, but if your not getting them up to temp your just hauling around extra unsprung weight. How much is too much or not enough depends on what your doing with the car.

If what your doing is purely for aesthetics though, I'd say just pick some rubber that fits square on the wheel so it's safe and leave it at that.
