Its about that time for tires
Got Nitto NT05's right now, great performing tire, only complaint they are a tad noisy and didnt last too long. But besides that everything was great. Im now in the market for some new tires, but cant figure out if I want to try something new. Hearing alot of great things about the star specs and Ventus v12. Just stopped into Americas Tire Co in Costa Mesa and they recommended checking out the BFG comp 2's. Ive got a couple quotes on the NT05s aound 155 per tire, not looking to spend anymore than that. All the others ive looked at have been around 130-140 range. I DD my car and dont get to the track, however I like to have fun in the canyons. Just looking for a good all around tire like the NT05, any other suggestions?
V12 r ok tires but done expect them to be nto5 in the canyons. But they r fairly cheap in price. I've used them a couple time at pv drive and la crest not the best tires but good enough for the price. Now star specs r great tires. I had a set a couple months ago and I loved them! V12 will last u a while!

About the V12s I have them currently and they are in a lower league than the NT05s. Because I consider the nt05 in the same group as the RS-R, the last tire I had.
The more I read about the testing of the BFGoodrich g-Force Rivals, the more I want to try them out. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...al-review.html
The only concern is the width. I have RS3 (235's) on the stock wheels and plan on going 255. I am reading the Rivals are quite bit wider than the RS3's and Direzza II's.

I went from V12's to RS-3's. The RS-3's are pretty worn now and are a pain in the ***. They follow every single rut in the road, and the steering effort has increased as well. BUT they still stick like nobody's business and follow every movement of the steering wheel. So when tooling around town. MEH. When you get on it, WOW!
The V12's were quiet comfortable and never pulled and followed ruts. They were also not too bad when driven ummm, enthusiastically. In autocross, the tyres are night and day difference. This is the real test, 10/10 driving.
Not sure I will go back to daily driving the RS-3's when I finish this set.

It seems as though Hankook RS-3's are back ordered till the beginning of may unfortunately, might have to settle with the v-12 evos' or look into a different tire. Bummer since I was pretty sold on the RS-3
We're neighbors! I've gone to that same America's Tire Co (and one of their employees has a white IX) and purchased a set of Z1 Star Specs from them at 25k miles and then a sec of V12s at 50k miles.
Z1s (and likely whatever its successor is called - ZIIs or whatever) were really good replacements for the stock Advans, though I think that they were a little bit heavier. The price isn't bad either. I would've gone with them, but I was looking for other decent alternatives when it came down to replaing them to save a little bit since it's not as if I needed that kind of a tire for daily driving, since I didn't really have time to go to actual events anyway.
For spirited driving (and obviously daily driving), the V12s are pretty nice and VERY affordable. Also, it seems like they often have manufacturer rebates for them, which makes it easier (though I did get one with my Z1s too). They're a lot more comfortable, but the second I left the shop with my car (turning back onto Bristol), I immediately noticed a little loss of feedback/response. It bothered me at first, and I think I even told myself that I would for sure go back to a tire with a stiffer sidewall.
But several months into using the V12s, they're actually not too bad at all. I know they're not as responsive (since the sidewalls are softer), but I'm pretty happy with them. I still take corners pretty hard, and I haven't been in a situation that made me wish for a stickier tire. They're more comfortable over bumps, quieter and will likely last longer. Like my Advans, I got the Z1s to last for about 25k miles (and they still had enough meat for me to sell them for $100 to someone online), but I was rotating them not only at every oil change but also once in between... so basically every ~1800 miles or so.
