wheel bearings
Ditto to the curb thing.
Dealer is your only choice. It is an assemble and comes with the hub and everything. It's a bolt on style hub not a press bearing in knuckle deal. I have one here but you don't want it.
Oh yeah, I am think it was about $180 from the dealer.
Edit: Damn you! It's a VII. I still think the design is the same as the 8. Let me guess, what you hear is the noise when you turn the wheel one way but not the other while driving down the road? So if you turn right it gets louder, hence it is the left bearing.

I think I have the same problem. When leaving the track (road course 75% speed), I thought my tire was so chewed up that is was sounding like a snow tire. waaawaaawaaawaa all down the highway. I changed my tires and it still does it. I will be dropping it off at the dealer today. FYI - It makes the noice at any speed over 50mph. below that it quiets back down. It is also my Left Front. But the wheel doesn't rock like the bearings are shot. Maybe they just need some TLC.
I can help you. Take your wheel off, pop off the dust cap, remove the cotter pin and then remove the castleated nut. Next, you'll see a wheel bearing right there, with the taper facing away from you...Actually, you know what, just bring it in because you could mess up your brakes if you dont do this right, and i dont want to feel like i caused it...sorry bro. But if you really want to know, PM me and then we'll go from there...
I'm going to dig up this old thread instead of starting a new one. I'm getting a "grinding" noise from the passenger side front wheel. It usually happens under moderate braking, slowing to a stop. It has also appeared at parking lot speeds while turning left. It doesn't happen all the time. Now, I've gone over my brakes thouroughly. Pads are good (at least 45-50% left) and the rotors are OK, no scoring or anything like that on the faces (both sides). The fact that the sound isn't there all the time and appears under certain conditions is maybe pointing to a wheel bearing going bad. I also have a slight shimmy at higher speeds (70-80 mph). It's not terrible, but it is there. If anyone has any input, please let me know. Again, I think it's a wheel bearing.
