Question brake fluid - please help

Can we use fully synthetic brake fluid in our Evo's? I am planning on taking mine to the track and purchased Motul RBF600. It is fully synthetic brake fluid. I checked the owners manual and it said not to use any petroleum based fluids or it could cause the seals to leak. Is synthetic fluid petroleum based? If so what oil should I be using if I need it to be able to stand up to extream heat.

thanks

If it says DOT 3/4 on the bottle it's fine. At the same time I've never heard of BF being associated with petroleum based fluids. Petroleum based fluids like motor oil, power steering, ATF and mineral spirits will damage seals. Just stay away from putting those in your brake lines and stay away from DOT5 (silicon based) and you'll be fine.
For price and practicality I like to use Valvoline Synpower Brake fluid. It's easy to find and has pretty good specs.

This is what I bought:
http://www.motul.com/uk/produits/index.html

It is fully synthetic. I bought it form Vivid Racing. I just called them and they said that it will work fine in the Evo. It exceeds DOT 5. However when I talked to the place that is going to do my brake pads, steel brake lines, and replace the fluid they said to make sure that I could put synthetic fluid in because it could hurt the seals. I just want to know if I will be ok with what I bougt and don't really know how to find out.

I appreciate any help on this...

I called them got a service rep and they cold not answer the question eiter. They are now trying to track down the engineering dept to get an answer and will hopefully get back to me soon.

Im not sure about the RBF600, But DOT 5.1 is Compatible with DOT3/4 systems which means it shouldnt hurt the seals, but it is not Mixable so make sure you get all of the old DOT3 Fluid out...

Definately - I will have all the old fluid drained. My main concern is the synthetic fluids effect on the seals.

Motul RBF600 works fine in our Evo's. I've been using it for 25000 miles now.

SC,

Thanks for the info. Mitsubishi finally called me back and said that although they recognize that fully synthetic brake fluid is great they did not test with it and therefore can not recommend it. However after finding out that it is not silicone based and that you as well as others are using it with no problems, I am going to stick with it. Thanks again...
