Brake Issue

I'll start off with saying I have searched for my specific problem and have tried what everyone has said and still not luck in solving my issue.

My brake pedal has been very soft feeling. The first third of the pedal depression does pretty much nothing. Then you can start to get some braking action after that, which is consistent.

I do track my car frequently, making sure to bleed the brakes (and ABS). I am running stock Brembos with Castrol SRF fluid, SS lines, street pads Carbotech Bobcats/ track Carbotech XP-10/8s. I just had the brakes refinished by Detective Coating, with new seals put in as well.

Nothing I have done seems to help and I'm running out of options. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe the brake master cylinder?

I'd check the slave cylinder (around $50) first. It's more likely than the master (around $100) and cheaper to replace anyway.

I think these are the numbers for EVO 8/9 (double check it)
clutch master cylinder - MR491945 -
clutch slave cylinder - MD748617 -

Does the pedal feel change if you pump it a few times?

First question is did you start having this problem right after you had them rebuilt? If so I'd make sure it was done properly with all the correct parts.

Guys, thanks for the response.

The problem started about two track events ago and has progressively gotten worse. I also sometimes daily the car, but only when my other car is down for maintenance. If you pump the pedal a few times, the brake pedal will stiffen up.

How are you bleeding the abs system? Following bleeding procedure? With engine off and pumping up the pedal does it feel stiffer throughout?

I had a similar problem every time I would bleed the brakes; the front brakes would start dragging quite badly after the first few stops. It seems silly but I fixed it by stepping on the brakes as hard as I could a couple of times while I was stopped. After that they completely stopped dragging.

I've followed the bleeding procedures like SMIKE had posted in an earlier thread. For ABS, I'll "activate" the ABS while driving to get the fluid to flow a bit, then bleed again.

I've always had the same problem with the dragging, and I fixed it the same way as you. A couple hard slams on them seems to fix it every time I bleed the brakes

Huh, didn't think anyone else had the same problem, let alone fixed it the same way. I feel better now

Try bleeding the brakes with the engine running but make sure you do not press the brake pedal to the floor. Put a brick or your foot under to stop it. Hows the pedal feel with the engine off as you pump up the pedal?

I'll try that this weekend. I also have a brake master cylinder on the way along with a brace

With the engine off, the pedal will get very stiff with a few pumps

I had the same problem. Mine was probably a way different issue than everyone else's though. I had my calipers powder coated and the brake guides were also coated(my fault for not telling the guy to tape them off). When I would press the brakes, the guides were built up enough to make the pads stick. Scraped off the powder coating on that area and have been good to go since.

Sorry for thread hijacking, I didn't want to open up a new thread.. Which brake pads are good for braking daily driven evo?
