replacing parking brake cable - questions

I am trying to replace the parking brake cable without having to disassemble the entire rear drum setup. Is this something that can be done or does everything have to come out?

I see where the parking brake cable comes into the rear dust shield, but i haven't disconnected it yet to see if it comes free. From looking at the new cable, it looks like it just slides into the drum lever.

Trying not to make this a major pita, which removing all of that would be.

Thanks!
