Rear Hub Removal Question

Ok the hub is free and is just being held on by rust in the splines. The axle splines are holding the hub on. I tried beating it a bite to no avail. My question is will heating the axle/spline area damage the bearing? I don't plan to heat the unholy crap out of it but is this a bad idea?

Gear puller with the opposing force on the axle.

So the axle is still in the hub? If so it is a lot easier to remove the hub if you remove the axle first. With the axle still in you will have to remove the hub completely straight which is difficult. If you want to do it that way use a puller as recommended above.

Every time I have removed one I soaked it all in pb blaster, pulled the axle, and then beat the hub off with a hammer equally all the way around. Never had a problem. Heat can help, but I have never needed it. Just don't melt any sensors.
