Agree on soft sidewall. Coming to these from my Rivals, I definitely miss the stiffer sidewall on the Rivals.

I recently read that Nitto was making a 140tw NT05, its gonna fall right in between the NT01 and the standard NT05. Looks like it could br worth while.

i ran a set of original rs3's for a long time and really liked them until they finally hardened up (something like 600 on track miles over 8 track days with 5-7k street miles. i put em on the car and left them and just drove which probably contributed to a slightly early cycling out). beginning of this season i needed tires urgently and couldnt wait for the rs3 v2 release, so i got z2's. the z2's are ok but really took some getting used to in terms of heating up/initial grip etc. they seemed to need almost 1 full track day to get to the really grippy part. i also do MUCH less street mileage now.

i say all this because from data ive seen the nt01 really has no great advantage over either of the "street tires" EXCEPT possibly slightly better heat tolerance and really not cycling out until truly bald.

im torn between nt01's and td's for next year since i think im ready to step up. the td's have been oing great things but i haven't found any great data on overall wear, just that after something crazy like 4-6 cycles they can lose 1-2 seconds.

^^ Too expensive to be no better than the z2/rs3/nt01/TD etc etc etc.

Went out to Inde Mororsports Ranch with NASA AZ over the weekend. As always with NASA there's always a ton of miata's. Well two of my buddies have pretty similarly spec'd cars. One friend is running NT01's, the other the new Maxxis Victra RC-1 (he was previously on NT01's but wanted to try these). Let me say the Maxxis RC-1 is a tire to keep your eye on. The grip is insane, I felt like it was closer to a Z214 C51 than a NT01. And the price isn't that bad either. The only downside is they're avaliable in limited sizes. Hopefully they'll address that. I'll be picking up a set of 255/40/17's.

I wonder how the Maxxis handles repeated heat cycles though? The main reason I'm looking at slower tires is long life over a lot of heat cycles, rather than ultimate speed. I had a set of R888s in the past that were great for a few weekends and then really fell off, even with a lot of rubber left.

I've had my RS3 for 3 track days so far. VERY impressed with the level of grip they provide. Though yes, the sidewall is slightly soft and requires a slightly higher tire pressure to run it.... For the price you can't beat them. I think i like them better than R888 and NT01... tho i love me some NT01's too

Jhurley, what size are you running? I'm leaning to the RS3. I need to decide whether it's worth the cost to go with an 18" size. I have both 17x9.5 and 18x9.5 rims I could use. Thx!

Supposedly the R888 and the NT01 are the same tread compound. Their tread patterns and the carcass are the only difference.

Be careful, 1) RPF1 have bent on fellow track people before. 2) 17x9 +35 will not clear brembos, the only reason I went with this set is because a friend sold them to me dirt cheap with some 70% PSS tires.... you will need a 20mm spacer up front which means you need ARP extended studs... also get steel hub rings.... as the plastic ones melt.

Do you happen to know what offsets with clear the evo brembos on the Buddy CLub QF's? I thought I read about them needing spacers. Nice lite wheel for sure.
