I paid $300.00 dollars to a professional performance shop for this install and less than 8,000 miles later this is what I have to deal with:

Is this my fault because I didn't check their work?

Is it AMS's fault for failing to make these ducts out of Kevlar?

Is it nobody's fault because it's been more than a year since?

Or is it the professional performance shop installer's fault for failing to understand basic wear prevention methods for performance parts on a performance car?

You could replace that hose or wrap it & then wrap it again with an anti-abrasive wrap

I wouldnt even bother bringing it up w/the shop that did it

 

You didn't pay $300.00 for it.

[Edit] and why wouldn't you want to give a shop an opportunity to improve their know-how and do the right thing at the same time?

I don't want my Evo looking all patched up and amateurish... that's why I paid a professional performance shop.

Ive learned how to take a loss & move fwd w/out further aggravation

I would contact the shop, and ask there opinoin about moving forward... It may turn out positive and they may replace for you... I figure 300 bux is worth something more then an install but to cover failed parts due to installation...

Those ducting tubes are basically wear items. Just the nature of them being a flexible component and not rigidly mounted means they are going to wear through eventually. 8000miles seems pretty dang good.

 

Yea I'd have just wrapped it and forgot about it honestly, maybe cut the hole bigger, finding something else to support it up if need be.

 

It's pretty obvious to me that the plastic was cut far too close to the silicone at a spot that was guaranteed to cause it to saw up and down against the sharp edge with every single compression of the suspension.

 

Yea absolutely why it cut through, hence why I said open the hole up a little, maybe a foam or soft rubber gasket around the edges of the cut hole.

I like the set up for sure

 

Tubing is cheap. I get your anger, but get new tubing and fix it. It wont be the last time the tubing gets holes and tears on it. There really isnt a nice way to install it with the oil cooler and acd pump on the other side.

Edit, this is after 8k miles? Thats not the shops fault. As I mentioned, the tubing wears. It wont be the last time.

I disagree, the problem with the install is right in front of your eyes, the hole should have been cut bigger, obviously.

 

I mean you paid a shop 300 bucks to do the DIY job it is, for you. That 300 could have been pads or some other consumable you will eventually need. If you actually need brake ducts, you better get familiar with your brakes because you will be rebuilding them.

I wish you luck but I dont see the shop taking responsibility here. Its a racing part, and the tubes are wear items.

I paid them to know that for me... back THEN, for the express purpose of saving me from having to hard-win the experience.

they failed, but I guess the real hard-won experience is to not trust that shop.

 

I'm surprised those hoses went 7K rubbing on anything or not. It looks to me like something that should be installed the morning of track day and pulled before hitting the road home.
