Evo 9 Steering Sensor Issue / Help Requested

Hey all, I recently had my transmission rebuilt for my Evo SE. After reinstalling the transmission, my ABS light is now illuminated. I currently have four codes. The first being right ABS sensor open loop. The other three are all associated with the steering wheel angle sensor. I will admit when I was reinstalling the subframe I was having trouble lining up the steering shaft. So I did unlock the steering wheel to jiggle it a bit to get it to slide in. I thought I was careful and returned the steering wheel back to where it was. However after installation it was a bit off.

At this time I'm wondering how I can further troubleshoot the steering angle sensor. I pulled the cover off the bottom of the wheel to see if there was any disconnected plugs. I couldn't find any. I'm just hoping I didn't damage the sensor somehow. How would you guys approach this? I'm all out of ideas, thanks for your help!

Mods can you please fix the title to reflect "Evo 9 Steering sensor issue" or something along those lines. I didn't realize I didn't title it right until it was too late, and now I can't edit it. Thanks!!!

I would tackle one problem at a time. Is the ABS code C0211? Or are you getting the ABS code some other way? Either way I think first step would be to do a visual inspection of whichever ABS sensor is being reported as "open", and inspect both the sensor and the reluctor wheel on the axle. You should be able to inspect them reasonably well without removing everything again. Do they look ok? Did you pinch the ABS sensor wire between any parts while reinstalling the subframe? Is the wire routed correctly? Is it plugged into its connector? Is there any damage to the reluctor wheel?

I was watching "New Level Auto' using a couple of after market high end scan tools checking the steering angle sensor on a Chevy. He got screwy results from both. He said he had to use the factory tool. This might be one for the dealer.

Hey guys, I wanted to update you all that I actually figured it out. Under the dash there is a fuse box, and I found a blown 7.5 amp fuse. The fuse was just labeled as "relay". As soon as I replaced it and powered it back on everything returned to normal. I bled the ACD and I have now put almost 150 miles on it without any hiccups. Thanks for everyone's input!

Good work on figuring out the problem. I've been thinking about this. The Evo has four channel brakes, a steering angle sensor and a G-sensor. In other words, all the elements of electronic stability control. Mitsubishi first introduced an electronic stability system in 1990. All vehicles sold in the USA had to have electronic stability control in 2012. So Mitsubishi was a pioneer in the field.

Modern sporty cars have driver adjustable settings, typically normal, sport and track. Most of the adjustment being made by this control will be to the electronic stability control system, the track setting having the least effect or maybe turned off completely. The Evo, having no such settings, and supposedly being a race capable vehicle, must have a very neutered stability control system. It makes me wonder why they even bothered.
