Lancer Evo 8 Front Lower Control Arm Casting

I was pressing out the ball joints and noticed the bottoms of the lower controls arms got beat up a bit in the process.

is this a big deal?

Am I looking at having to source new control arms?

Great pics of the issue. I was about to comment on the first couple of pics & say no problem, just clean up those sharp points & clean up the interior bearing surface, but the last couple of pics left me concerned!

Ive never personally removed / installed the arms. Have had our local SoCal shop do all my bushing work

The other hands on guys will let ya know

I pressed them out from the top down like I saw in some video how tos. It seems the lower lip just got chewed up in both cases.

The top two pics may seem better but the entire "ring" on the underside came off.

The second one (last two pics) just seems to have gotten bent back in one spot. Hoping i can just clean up the surfaces and be ok.

Yeah, that lip has a chamfered angle to it. That chamfer is certainly there for a reason but maybe it can be shaved & smoothed down.

We need to have Dallas chime in w/his thoughts

I spoke to someone about this issue and sounds like it may be a common occurrence and nothing to worry about.

It makes sense since there's a snap ring on the top and I don't think the ball joint can be pushed all the way through from the bottom.

Hoping for at least one more person to confirm that's the case.

Looks like someone on here also made a comment that appears to talk about the same issue and that it's not a big deal. Unfortunately it doesn't look like he's been active since January 2021 so I can't ask.

I had that happen but not to the degree of yours. While not happy about it I concluded there was no safety issue as the ball joint is held in by the C-clip and that lip wasn't really doing much anyway. I've been running them like that for 7.5 years with no issue. Don't stress it.
