Well, the ABS works . . .

driving to work yesterday, light turns green (I'm three or so back, so no stoplight launches ). The line of traffic gets some good spacing going and out of nowhere a clueless BMW 7xx just comes into my lane. No signal, no looking. The front of my car was about at the middle of his rear left door. But we had just started moving, so it's not like I was cruising in his blind spot. Apparently he didn't notice a bright yellow car next to him.

The human brain is an amazing machine though. I had already mashed the brakes as hard as I could before I consciously realized what had happened. Layed on the horn and got the "oops, I'm an idiot, but don't realize I actually did anything wrong and will probably do this again -- wave".

The odd thing was, this was the first time I engaged the abs, and it makes a clicky/crunching/different (best description I can do) sound. Having never heard it before, I wasn't sure we didn't hit and rub a bit. But I got a good look at his car at the next light and there was no yellow paint or dents on him, so I assumed my car was okay. It was.

EVO to the rescue again. Any other car and we would have collided, no doubt. I'd be we missed by less than an inch.

So next time you're detailing the engine bay, give the ABS module a shine too.

That's why my twin air horns are going get installed soon. There are too many idiot drivers in metro DC area. At least with the air horns they won't be confused about where the signal is coming from.

And to your point, the brakes on the Evo are one feature that really, really shines. You almost have to be careful of stopping too quick otherwise less capable cars/drivers will run into the back of you. It sounds kinda stupid but true.

Oh yeah. I have the patented, slam 'em hard, let off, and coast to a stop plan. It lets the drivers behind me know that I can stop on a dime and afterwards they usually give me space. But when I see brakes in front of me, the first thing I check is the rearview.

It works for a commute when the same person is behind you for a while and the traffic is steady. It doesnt' work for emergency braking maneuvers. Luckily the saab behind me gave me plenty of room (and we were only going 30 or so).
