Front End Clunk - Check Strut Bearings
Front End Clunk - Check Strut Bearings
(Haven't seen anyone post this - if they have sorry for the repeat.)
Think I had the same noise others have where a 'clunk' sound comes from the front end. Mine was sounding like it was coming somewhere from the passenger side. Hard to describe quick, solid sound - like something metal was releasing a lot of force. Easily mistaken for a driveline problem.
After taking a quick look at the underneath at the bushings, etc., I remembered the Evo had strut upper bearings and when inspected immediately noticed the grease had moved away from the bearing race and *****. The grease was still in a ring shape but moved physically away from the metal.
Simple press of the grease back into the bearing, and a few turns of the steering wheel, eliminated the noise.
Parts like this on the Evo need that extra attention unlike 'regular' street cars!
