tire help

I picked up a screw in my front tire and it went right through the side wall. I was told that this could not be fixed ( I'm ok with that ) but then they told me I had to replace all four tires because it was an all-wheel drive car. Is this guy feeding me a line or is it true? I have 5/32 of tire wear. I would be greatful for any help the forum can offer.

If your tires aren't wearing bad... just get one. If questionable get 2. Don't get jacked!

You don't have to replace all 4, especially if I'm reading that right and you barely have any treadwear. Now if you have somewhat worn tires it's a good idea to that way they will all wear the same, and that's what I did. It can cost ya, so it's really a personal choice. But just because it's AWD doesn't mean you have to, you just want the tires to all wear the same, and with 3 worn and 1 new tire, you'll never have them all wear the same again.

My understanding is that with AWD cars you would need to replace all 4. You would get a mismatch of velocities at the differential due the difference in diameter and this could cause undue wear on the dif. 5/32” is pretty deep wear for the Advans. I’m not entirely sure how much tread they came with when they were new.

Best wishes,

Talking

If you replace all four, at least you will have 3 emergency spares.

Let me do a sales plug here. 5/32 is almost have worn out. I'm sure the Advans come at at least 8/32 possibley 10/32. For reasons given before, you need to make sure the new tire is the same depth because of the diferential. Goodyear has even put out a bulletin about this subject and the same thing has been written in the trade magazines.

Here is where I can help. I can order you a new A048 and we can shave the tire for you to match the other tires. Cost is $15 per tire. This way al the tires will be with in 1/32 or so which really makes no difference.

Pm me if you would like to discuss this more.

I'm no expert, but I'm fairly certain you can run disparately worn tires front to rear, but not side to side (especially with the rear LSD). I would get two new tires and put them on the front. Just plan on buying 2 more within the next few months because Advans wear fast. OR for about the same price as 2 Advans, you could get 4 brand new Falken Azenis Sport in 245/45/17. That's what I run and they are really nice. About as sticky as the Advans but not anywhere near the price. I got mine for $560 mounted balanced out the door with lifetime rotation & balance.
