rim width for 245

What range of rim widths will fit a 245? I am looking into getting new 18s and want to be able to run 245s and then switch to 265s. Can this be done on the same rim? I have new tires from my old car and they are 245s r18 and want to throw them on some new wheels. Is a 9 too wide for 245?

It really depends on the full tire size and tire you choose. For instance, a 245/40-18 will fit wheels 8.00-9.50" wide. A 265/40-18 will fit wheels 9.00 to 10.00" wide. So it seems you could get away with a 9" wheel on either one. *again, this might differ depding on the full size/type of tire you choose*
