Suspension vs Tires
Suspension vs Tires
hey guys,
i'm wanting to improve the turn-in and mid-corner grip for canyon driving (and maybe some track days) and was wondering which will give a better result... stock suspension (possibly lowered?) with RA-1's OR JIC/ZEAL coil-overs with stock Advans.
i already have RRE's rear sway bar, which is currently set to "soft" and i'm about to see what it's like in the "intermediate" position. if i went coil-overs i would get RRE or someone equally experienced to set it up for me.
so basically the question is will R-compound tires alone make more or less of a difference than a well set-up coil-over with stock tires.
obviously doing both would be ideal, but the money tree is running low...
thanks for any words of wisdom,
cheers,
warren

In most cases putting aftermarket suspension on the car actually hurts performance when it comes to cornering there are a few exeptions however the Evo's handling was designed very well stock and most people I know that have put aftermarket springs/coilovers on have regreted doing so. I would go with the RA-1's however the stock advan tires are also really good and the RA-1 performance will only be a slight bit better. I wouldn't expect huge suspension gains from either one or even both.
