Lower car for free!?!?

Ok, just kicking this idea out there to see what you guys think. I haven't look at the Evo's strut since I thought of this, but could you lower the spring purch mount on the strut, thus lower the car?? I have done this on my previous car (a saturn, prob. about 4 years ago). I had KYB struts, lowering springs, but wanted to go about .5 inch lower. My Dad and I took a grinder to the welds on the spring purch, moved it down about .5 inch, and re-welded it on the strut (you HAVE to take your time, dont get the strut too hot, could damage ).

One thing I ran into was the strut purch rubbed against one of the wheels. Part of the strut purch actually sat above the tire (the springs were WIDE). This was the only problem I ran into with this (finally said f-it after a year and we made some coilovers). Don't know if anyone has thought/tried this, but I have read about people being dissapointed in the aftermarket springs. This has made me hesitant about getting some springs, and this way, you could keep the factory springs. Let me know what you guys think...

srd, I never said I was planning on doing this to my evo. Just throwing the idea out to see if anyone else wanted to do it. Plus, I looked last night, the bottom spring purch does sit above the wheel, about an inch over the wheel, so this idea will not work anyway.

srd, do you have any springs, or is your suspension still stock?

Man you must be nuts. Imagine you doing 100mph and the perch that you welded comes off. It wont be a pretty site. Just buy some springs and lower it the correct way.

I think that would leave the possibility of the strut being over extended. That could be bad news on any car if you're in the wrong moment.
