What's the difference between PF01 and PF97 brake pads?
 

I'm looking for a set of trackday-only pads, and was looking at the Performance Friction 01 and 97 pads, but I have not been able to locate any information on differences in coefficient of friction and temp ranges.

While I'm not a track pro, I do find that my Ferodo pads do fade pretty badly, and am looking for pads to run with Brembo slotted rotors (at least until I get my 2pc floating ones).

What do you guys recommend? PF01 or PF97? I'm looking to get them for the front and rear, and heat range should be at least up to 1300F (750C)

Alternatives so far include: Endless CC-X, and Hawk (which model should I be looking at?)

i'd can the slotted rotors. Don't do anything other than chew up pad.

I've got PF front pads. I got them from AMS, but I'm not 100% sure what type they are since the box really doesn't say.
Edit - They were the PF Z-pads.

I ran a 2-day event with them and experienced little - if any - fade. They were my first replacement from the stock pads, so I don't have a lot of comparable information - but I'd recommend them!

what did the side of the box say? did it say 1001.10's?

The PF01s are newer than the PF97s. The last 2 digits represents the year I think. The 01s effectively work in a slightly higher heat range and have a high torque rating compared to the medium torque rating of the 97s. Which also means they take longer to warm up and will initially chew up rotors more when cold. Most track pads are known to work upto 1600F before deteriorating (some even higher depending of the rating). More info on the various PF series can be found here:

Personally I bought PF97 fronts because I heard they have excellent modulation and are easy on the rotors. I am sticking to Ferodo DS2500s for the rear since the rear doesn't see as much heat and tends to run a lot cooler.

the PF01 are essentially race compound brake pads, higher MOT than the PF97. The PF97 are definitely a step above the DS2500 as far as bite and MOT, comparable more to the Ferodo DS3000 which is another brake pad you should consider.

Whatever you get, do not get Hawk Blue brake pads...eats rotors like crazy and the brake dusts will literally eat through paint if not washed off soon enough.

i've been told to run 01's in the front and 97s in the rear. i plan on running that combo within the next month on R compound tires and will post reviews

Thanks, guys. Looks like my ideal choice would be PF97 all around. PF01 sounds good, but I can't find them for the rears anywhere

@WarmPepsi -- re: slotted rotors: No choice. Even the PF 2-piece ones used a slotted design :(

Fyi, guys they don't make the PF97s for the rear calipers on the EVO. They actually stopped making them, yeah I know its stupid. Right now I'm planning to use PF97s in the front and Ferodo DS2500s in the rear because the rears don't experience the same amount of heat and wear compared to the fronts. Another set of pads you guys should look into is the Raybestos ST-43s, supposedly very similar to the characteristics of the PF97s ....

yeah, i guess the 2 piece units on my car have magic slots.

they're dimpled, and that helps with knowing the service limit, but thats about it.

slotted = junk.

understood. You're right, PF 2pc rotors are dimpled, not slotted. Will switch to non-slotted ones for track. Thanks :)
