My IveyTune Experience
Gravel is fastest. Test it. It's true. staatz was at the track when I did the test. I have the timeslips to prove it. There were several others there as well whom I explained the test to. I encourage everyone to run Tarmac vs Gravel and post results. Well documented thus far that gravel is a couple tenths faster. Road & Track and Motor Trend also stated that they ran their straight line acceleration tests FASTEST/QUICKEST in Gravel setting.
But you said as an explanation, its faster because you can turn off the diff's. Which is seemed to me a little odd , as much as i know about the Evo drive train.
And i simply asked , How? because i never heard anything like that before in the evo.
Then you said this:
"Gravel=Open Diffs=Less drag on drivetrain=more effecient way to put power down on an AWD car
Tarmac=Locked Diffs=More drag on drivetrain=less effecient way to put power down on an AWD car
Short and sweet enough?"
which is in my understanding with the ACD is wrong. Actually the total opposite...
quote
"Tarmac is the setting to be used in dry, paved conditions. In this setting, the ACD will almost immediately allow the center differential to go into a free state upon detecting a steering input.
Gravel is the setting designed for wet or loose roads. In this setting, the ACD will delay in freeing the center differential for a moment (possibly 2-3 seconds)."
Means the Tarmac mode immediately can release the ACD to a free state , mean while the Gravel locks it make sure you get a grip aprox 2-3 sec longer.
Also it is worth to make a not here:
"When the car is accelerating or decelerating rapidly, the ACD begins to engage the limited-slip locking on the differential. The harder you accelerate or decelerate, the more it locks."
So that is means in the ACD will be locked or partially locked wont matter which settings you pick when you do a hard acceleration. In Gravel mode the locking will be longer then in Tarmac.
And as harder you accelerate more it locks. So probably in the 1/4 mile run is a fully locked stage first, then slow release as you go faster and the acceleration drops.

Not to mention in the the Gravel setting will delay the freeing for the ACD vs the Tarmac.
Then i asked more explanation to make sure i do understand what you said, but i got the explanation what is the ACD./which doesnt explain the 3 modes how it is actually works/
So i did put on the actual ACD explanation with the 3 different mode since seem to me more guys is confused about it.
And make it clear how actually the ACD works. I think in the long run is more beneficial for all of us. Not for the arguing sake, just simply reason:
They will not explain to they buddy or racing partners a wrong way how the Evo is works actually.
I hope this post will come a cross a good way, i mean no harm or anything.
We need to talk about it to understand it , that's all . We all will have a benefit after all of these.
Cheers Rob
Great post and I agree with what you're saying. The more we talk and share with one an other the more we can all learn. With the above holding true I can only shrug and wonder why my car is 3 tenths faster consistently in the 1/4 in Gravel mode vs Tarmac. Anyway, stay tuned for my IveyTune experience part II
More mods and more fun to be had.

Once my Red goes in i'll be going back to Ivey too. So your getting tuned tomorrow? Post up in this thread when you do or a link to your new thread. Good luck man!
