E85 on Stock Turbo & Internals

It's official - I've joined the E85 army in my X. I acquired and installed the necessary items, drained and filled the tank, and scheduled an appointment with my tuner (Wingz Performance). This was done about 10 days ago, and I've probably burned through one tank since then.

I feel like I have a different car again. Fuel trims were dialed in, AFR was corrected, timing was advanced, and the boost is maxed out with the MBC (27 psi peak, tapers to 18psi @ redline - that's all we can get out of the stock turbo, seems the compressor is maxed out).

Here's my engine/power mod list for reference:

AP short ram intake
AGP hard pipes
AGP DBE exhaust
Hallman Pro MBC
AUS 1000cc injectors
Walbro 255lph HP FP
Prosport Boost Gauge
AEM Wideband
Stock WGA tightened all the way down

THE RESULTS:

The torque is a lot of fun, but I was hoping for a few more gains in HP up top. Mid range gain is great, but I'm still not too sure what to make of it. Anyone have any thoughts on that? It was 108*F when it was on the dyno mind you, but my only thoughts are heat soak or I'm limited by the stock DP.

And a quick pic of my car

I think you are probably just limited by the stock turbo, but I don't know.

Those Torques in Yamaha Black?

Gunmetallic actually, just the lighting in that pic makes them look a little darker.

Any thoughts on why I didn't see better gains up top? I was hoping you might chime in there...

Flow restriction, Boost control, heat, etc

Could be any of those

Have a boost plot?

Congrats on taking the leap to E85. The torque numbers are amazing. Hard to get the most out of a tune when it's over 100 degrees.

Keep us posted on how much your gas mileage drops compared to before your conversion.

I don't unfortunately. It peaks at 27 psi and does a pretty steady taper to 18, like we've all seen many times over. Thanks though, we're on the same page.

You should be able to get a higher boost spike out of the stocker. I am hitting 31 psi but like you tapering hard down to ~18 psi. I too tightened down the stock actuator but I am running a 3 port from Perrin. Maybe try going to a 3port to hold a little more boost. It more than likely won't help up top but you could probably get even more torque

I would say the power is limited by the heat partially and maybe you aren't throwing enough timing in there? We could not get my car to knock on E-85 but we stopped making power so we backed it down. E-85 loves timing thats for sure.

Ps. Welcome to the army

I think your BOV is leaking and limiting your peak boost, also adding a 3 port boost solenoid would help control it better. You shouldn't need the WGA tightened out all the way if you are using Ecu controlled boost via the tune nor the MBC.

Now all that aside, I think you made really nice gains considering the weather was 40+ degrees hotter. It will make alot more power when it is back in the 60's outside and after you upgrade the FMIC because I'm sure it is heat soaking pretty bad at that psi. The torque gain is sick! Nice work.

Yup, E85 is a MBT capable fuel, which you have to treat with respect, unless you want to vent your block.
