which sub is better than stock
which sub is better than stock
ok , now that we have our stock subwoofer out. is there a good replacement of do we need to add an amp to our sub. the stock sub is 1 ohm and only 75 watts, I have a couple of other subs. Rockford 8 ohm 400 watt or a 4 ohm cadence 250 watt. the only real rub is the stock speaker is dual voice coils and has 4 wire attachment. I guess you could run them together for left and right + / - my other subs are only single voice coils. what do you guys think.
there is a mount inside that limits how tall your speaker is. the stock measures almost 4 1/2 inches tall, the complete case depth is 6 1/2 if you were to cut down the mount where the screw goes into the back of the stock sub. probably to keep it from rattling.
Kicker L7's are suppose to be the best bang for the buck, also any higher wattage Rockford Fosgate is suppose to be really good. I was in the market for some subs a little while back & the salesman kept saying that Rockfords pump out more power than labeled. Get a 12" if you like hip-hop & a 10" for rock.
I tried another 10 in Rockford that I had but it wasnt better, actually sounds ok but less bass. I had the long throw cadence but with out an AMP I think this is the best sub with the stock system. Rockford has the I360 center which will allow you to intergrate into the stock system I may look into that.
You could technically get a new sub to run off the existing wiring. But, there's a very good chance it will sound worse than the stock sub. For the best sound you'll at least need a separate amp to run the new sub.
For a new sub, you'll want to find out the air space in the stock enclosure. Then find a sub that matches that air space.
Best solution would be to completely remove the stock enclosure. Replace it with a fiberglass enclosure with a sub that matches the enclosure and the type of sound you are looking to get. Then match that with a new amp.
Good luck!
