The guys at Car Toys recommended this head unit to replace my stock GSR radio (not the RF or Nav). I want Sirius compatability and Ipod connection. I'm fine with the sound out of the stock head unit so I wouldn't think an Alpine unit could possibly be any worse. The thing I'm most worried about is the look.
What do you guys think about this unit? With install, kit and Sirius tuner, I think it came out to about $500. My other option is to just get a portable Sirius radio and hard wire into the back of the stock radio. That would cost about $150-300 ($150 for Sirius radio and $150 for install...which I could probably do myself).

Installed this unit in my EVO last weekend....sound quality 10/10, function 7/10, appearance 5/10 (leaves the car with a large dark area below the deck)...I used the Metra kit super easy to install but I am going to modify it to put the deck at the bottom and my boost guage and AEM wideband above
^ Good call
(Granted, my gauges are paper to check for size)

I've heard good things about the 9884, though I don't have one myself.
If you don't need an amp or anything, and you can work with wires/solder at all, I strongly recommend doing the install yourself. Not only is it cheaper, you'll then have the knowledge to fix anything that comes your way down the road.
