GSR evo X audio info request

Hi all!
I'm a noob to Evos, but not a noob to i.c.e. So, pls. ignore noob-ish comment about evos. I've got an EvoX GSR.. just got it 2 weeks ago. I can confirm that the "dealer-installed" speakers S.U.C.K. I've been trying to find information on things like mounting depth of the front speakers, and the rear speakers, and the diameter that it can fit in.. etc..etc.. I've got these pics of the adapters for the front speakers (courtesy of a forumer, but I can't remember which forum.hheheh)... I can't find any dimensions for these things.

Would the same measurements for the evo7-9 be usable in this case?
If anyone has installed any aftermarket speakers, would they share with what fits without any cutting to the door?

Any help/input is much appreciated..

well those are 6 1/2" speakers, but most likely a lot of aftermarkets wont fit w/o modification. its not the problem as far as depth that I can see, as much as it is width of the magnet. Depth, according metra, is 3"s on fronts and rears.

Thanks, man... you're right. I know they're 6.5" but I was hoping more on what examples of speakers can fit that triangular opening on the door panel itself at 3".

Do you know if the rear doors have that triangular opening as well??

I've heard others say that their aftermarket 6.5's fit with the spacer that Crutchfield sells. But when I tried putting my MB Quart 216PCE's the basket would not clear the triangular opening. Fortunately, I had four 1/8" fiberboard rings (spacers) from a previous ride. I had to use the Crutchfield spacer, plus two fiberboard spacers per front speaker to clear the basket. They fit perfectly now though, with clearance to the back of the door panel still.

I got much cheaper MB quarts for the rear, so I had no guilt about mangling the basket to make those fit; since I didn't have anymore spacers. Good luck.

Ehem, im a girl, but anyways. most likely it will have the same triangle style for the rears. Like salukidude says his mb quartz's didnt fit in because the basket on the speakers do not clear through that opening, thats why i said modification may be needed depending on what kind of speakers you purchase

The rears are identical to the front. Here's the front.

The spacer is from Crutchfield. Just enter your car info and browse through wiring accessories. But that alone wasn't enough. As I said I had to use 1/4" of fiberboard spacers + Crutchfield spacer.

Alternatives would be to use the stock speaker mount and cut out the speaker. Or saw into the door and make that triangle a circle. I would like to see someone do the latter!!

Edit: I forgot I had these pics from the drivers side.

What's the maximum height that can fit above the door metal panel, before it hits the door "cover"? That might give an indication of what can fit into that triangular panel.

damn saluki, you went all out! what else are you putting in/have you put in? just from looking at your speakers and the fact that you are rewiring them looks like its going to be a sick set up! (i thought i was the only one picky enough to do that!)

Haha yeah the MB Quarts are 175W RMS so I wasn't about to settle for puny stock wire. I'm running them on an Alpine PDX-4.150; so actually the speakers don't quite get 175W. I have a Clarion 2-din DVD head unit + 6-disc + 5.1 Dolby processor all connected with fiber optic cables. I'm having a hard time getting it dialed in as good as in my old Evo VIII. I don't like the rear spealers in the door vs in the deck lid in the VIII.

I'm supposed to be getting a custom fiberglass box made on Sunday for a
JL-10W6v2 that I already have. I have an Alpine PDX-1.600 just for it. I love these tiny Alpine amps (and JL too). They put out old school power with no heat problems and they fit under seats. I'll see if I can get some pics up soon.

flush mount front speakers

3 cuts and some die grinding to round out the hole...pretty simple flush mount and looks alot cleaner than having all those spacers in there
