Back Up Camera

Just wanted to share a few pics of my B/U cam I installed today. It is just a cheapie off ebay, but I did NOT want the OEM cam from mitsu. I only tested it, because I don't have my nav in yet (AVIC-D3 soon, when I can afford my amp/sub). But it works great.

And I like the way it is hidden instead of the OEM cam right in the middle of the trunk.

Anyway, here's the pics:

Yes, I know my car is dirty!!! It does rain sometimes in vegas

This looks really good. Can you tell me what model camera that is or link me to it? Also, did you have to drill anything to run the wiring? A mini how-to/pics would be great. I know there was another one up on the site earlier.

I did have to drill a small hole for the wire to go through into the trunk. Used some silicone to fill the hole, and it's partly covered under the black plastic trim anyway, so you dont' really see it. Other than drilling/screwing the camera in, just a very basic cam install.

The cam is something similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Rear-View-Car-Ba...3A1%7C294%3A50

Also I put some old dynamat that I found laying around the garage behind the factory sub. Sounds much better from inside and outside the car (not as much rattling).

anyway to wire this in with the factory nav system? that looks really nice and i am with you on the factory backup camera placement.. hate it.. but at the same time we cant see S**T out the rear when backing up so need it soon lol.

I was thinking of splicing this with the factory harness somehow?

lol, yeah, just expired a couple days ago, but I'm waiting on my custom NV plate.

As for hooking it up to the factory nav, I have no idea. I don't have the factory nav, nor do I want it. Either way, I don't know enough about it. I would guess that is NOT a direct plug in since the aftermarket cameras use an RCA style video plug. I doubt any factory nav system has an RCA input for the reaview camera.

Exactly, I'm not selling mine, just describing it. For the factory kit it retails for about $400 for the camera, wiring and the little "box" to attach it to the trunk. Dealer cost is about $300.
