Read up on it first and see if it fits your needs (like adding aftermarket amps)- http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/CleanSweep_2006.pdf

The distortion by itself will not blow your speakers. The above information that I just gave you is from a JL Audio cleansweep training tech from JL training which I attended two years ago. Whether he is right or wrong, that is just what I have been told. I still would say the cleansweep is the way to go.
Absolutely right that distortion by itself won't blow speakers. Definitely have to have high wattage to blow a speaker, but you can run clean (low THD) power at wattages well above recommended for the speaker, and not blow it. The key is to not have so much wattage that the coil itself cannot handle the heat, and snaps. That could happen even without distortion.

Clipping isn't the only thing that causes distortion. The amplification of a signal with cheap components, creates a higher distortion rate. Cheap amps running at the same power as a quality amp, will blow a speaker before quality amp. Distortion isn't just something that's heard.

Damn, just read some info on aftermarket head units with the stock amp, my stereo knowledge ftl.

If the guys I talked to at my local shop are correct, and the head unit is causing all the problems, the Cleansweep should be the easiest/cheapest solution. I didn't realize the factory amp doesn't play nice with aftermarket head units, else I would have probably went with the Cleansweep. Sounds like I'll end up buying an aftermarket amp. My stereo is going to sound nice, albeit at a higher cost than originally intended. *wallet open, fly comes out*

Thanks for the advice guys, hopefully this thread can help other people looking to fix the factory stereo problems.

Anyone install it yet? How hard is it?

Partially off note; Anyone else notice that their FM sounds better than the damn Sirius? The quality is seriously horrible.

Is this still a problem if you replace the SSS head unit with the Navi unit or no?
