So you have to buy a Viper alarm, a Viper Smart module, an Iphone, and the app? just so you can start your car remotely?

Seems like a waste of $$ to me...

This is probably more intended for people with iphones already or the ipod touch. For 500 bucks without being limited on distance plus car alarm, it's not a bad deal. Plus not having to carry around another key fob, sends alerts to your phone if I am reading this correctly.

App for att/iphone users is free, the 500 bucks covers the alarm and module. How's it a waste of money?

Yes use your iphone to start any car without a remote start

Seriously dude? You need the alarm, and the plug n play module and the iphone. This is also nothing new. The sell modules that you can call up and lock/unlock/start etc your car. The only "new" thing here is that it's an app and you don't have to dial a number.

Ok, so I already have an iphone, and I don't see the point in spending $500 so I can call my car and ask it to start itself

yeah for some with viper alarms and iphones already, some may not want to spend the 300 to get the module. Me personally, I probably would, definitely looking into getting the 500 piece since I don't have the alarm and remote start here in Colorado is a plus during winter times.

being able to use the iphone as the fob is just another feature added to the many already available.

Then don't get it, pretty simple, this is just a thread to inform others in case they haven't seen or heard about it.

Ok, if you have a remote start and an remote start all you need is the module. If you don't have an iphone use the model to call your phone and start your car.
It doesn't have to be $500+
I got a brand new prestige remote start for my car for $70. I also have picked up refurbed dei ones for $40 and a hornet (another dei brand) brand new for $20. Remote starts are dirt cheap now a days, it's the install you pay for. If you can install it yourself your money ahead.

I spoke with a installer and they said this has not released just yet. He also believes that they will offer a module that will make it compatible with cars that have the proximity FOB's.

It works!!

I have had remote start in Evo for over 4 years now. Seen this and had to do it. So I upgraded to the 5901 and the smartstart on Sunday(yesterday). Bought the unit from Best buy (sence they are the only ones currently selling it) installed with my friend on the side. Had to go back to Best Buy for them to activate it, they had no clue, 1 hours later finally got password for them to login to viper to set it up. Setup and working in less than two mins. With emailed password. There is a 3-5 second delay even at 30 miles away.
Tested it at work while someone was at home next to my car, using iphone on speaker phone, opened app then unlocked it, then started and stopped it. Distance was a min of 30 miles away.
