Point of Interests - Navi Question

Hello-

Going a bit crazy here...

In my 08' Scion (Stock Alpine navi) I can do a search for something in my vicinity. For example, if I'm on B Street, and I'm wanting a subway sandwich, I'd search for Subway and it would show every subway near me.

On this unit, it seems to only show POI "categories", where it lists restaurants, sorted by type (fast food / Chinese, etc.)

Any pointers?

You got to choose "All", and then press on "List". You should get them all listed.

XRims,

Thanks for your response but it seems you didn't understand my original question.

I want to be able to TYPE in "subway" and see a list of subways in my vicinity. As of now, I'm only able to select a category and then see a list of "all" restaurants that match that category in my vicinity.

Can someone that isn't trying to "up their post count" give me an intelligent response?

I've read through the manual and have had no luck.

Sorry I will go into detail the kenwood navi system is not as detailed at an alpine navi, kenwood doesn't program each business into it I would assume to save some data space. Personaly I'm mor fond of alpine. But our navis don't have the option they are just programed to show that there is food at a location and not what the place is.

Again..

The Navi shows every single business. The problem here is that I can't "select" a business, rather just a category.

For example:

If I select POI, it will ask for a category, city, etc. If I select "sandwiches (yes, it gets that granular) it will show every sandwich shop in the vicinity. I don't want options, I just want subway sandwiches.

It's not a matter of the data not being there, as it is. It's being able to select it.

Can anyone else add to this thread?

Thanks!

Why is this so difficult...

I don't want categories. I want to type in "subway" and see the subway's near my vicinity, plain and simple.

lol sorry ur not getting ur question answered, but im 99% sure we cant search a specific business on our navi, u have to go into category like u said and choose the company under the category- ur case fast food, thats 1 of the downsides of our navi system. hope that answered ur question lol

Interesting... Please do.

So you had to choose the city? It won't just pick up where you are?

Perhaps it isn't the best approach, when asking for help, to blame members because you aren't getting the exact response you want? People are trying to help you. Give them a chance to help before jumping down their throat with all the comments

The answer to your question is in the Navigation user manual which came with your car. Maybe the dealership didn't include one with your car? If not, please ask the dealership for it.

Searching for a POI by name is a function that is available on the MMCS. I've used it a handful of times and it works. The biggest downfall is that it may not include every single location in your area because the navigation data is a year or two old. So newer locations won't show up. There is a new navi DVD available that might help with that issue. Not sure how current that data is.
