MMCS video in Motion for HKS comp 2 unit
Ok, I applogize to everyone that I haven't given any updates in like 5 months. Job has been really tough the past few months and then a bunch of family stuff kept poping up and my friend who has all the equipment I need is in Law school and has no time for me to come over and poke around his place.
Now that he is off for the summer and he finally got his osciloscope and waveform generator i'm fairly confident that I'll be able to do some data logging on the VSS from the car to know what signal I need to simulate/alter and be able build and test a circuit without risk of frying any electronics.
Hopefully you'll hear back soon but hey when I'm done I plan on posting a detailed how to nuts to bolts on how to make the mod and your getting it for free :-)
Also,
Any tips on getting the Factory Navi out of the dash? (pointers to any threads are also appreciated)

you need to purchase the interface unit, and the boost sensor, temp sensor and a/f knock. i believe you need a F/Con also, not 100% sure. I believe the a/f knock connects to the F/Con and the F/con connects to CAMP.
I just wired in a Lancer GTS MMCS into my EVO (original was stolen / plugs were cut), previous owner bought entire harness and unit from a GTS (thought they'd be the same)
I read MANY threads on getting the Aux / DVD to work while in motion, there was some software hacks ( which I know nothing about) and then there was the hardware (wire) modification. I figured while I was back there (and since the harnesses and GPS antenna were already cut) i would just do that. The 1 thing I learned from the threads that if the MMCS doesnt see a speed signal, every 30 - 40 seconds it looks at GPS to see if its moving. So you have to cut both. I picked up a 3 dollar switch at radio shack (has to have 2 sets of contacts and spliced it in-between the GPS antenna (center conductor) and the speed sense wire. Works like champ! The GPS antenna is pretty tricky, so if you are not all that good with wires I wouldnt attempt. and the speed sense is just a wire. Since both the antenna and speed sense are resistance sensitive (and the wires are small) everything needs to be soldered (no butt splices here), so again I caution you about wiring ability. or maybe look into the software side of it???
hope this helps,

Magikmike, sounds like you had some success. What is the outcome? Are you able to get Aux-in video in motion?

Sorry all, I haven't checked this thread in awhile, but as I 1st stated this has worked for me. I haven't had that many instances where I've required it, but if I'm in aux mode, and I flip my switch the "video cannot be displayed while driving" message goes away. Also verified DVD while in motion
The MMCS Over ride will NOT give you video in motion... it is designed to keep ADR approval.
Only touchscreen can be used as it fools the MMCS into think its doing less than 2kmph.
Completely disabling the the VSS cable forces the MMCS to use the GPS signal and therefore disabling the screen again.
The Datasystem TV-Kit does work since it disables the GPS and VSS signals... The unit is for JDM cars, but can easily be modified to fit.
I have used both kits
Disclaimer: Only tested on AUDM Evo X's

As I stated... when you get rid of your VSS, it looks at your GPS, thats why you need to disable it also. I accomplished this with a DPDT switch (http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062499)
Feel like writing a DIY on how to wire up this switch in to the system?

Hrm...does anyone know how the Speed Sensor (VSS) wire works? As in, what type of signal is going over the wire? I ask because the "simulate a 3kph" idea is a good one that shouldn't be terribly hard to do as long as I know how VSS works. Even if its some sort of waveform, that's easy enough to generate. Only problem/disadvantage is that I'm guessing all the speed/mpg etc data will be wrong on the MMCS...
*Quick Google shows many VSS just carry a square wave on it. If so, that's like a single chip solution...super easy to make simulator for cheap.*
Thanks!
