Aftermartket GPS Install Questions

I had a couple questions that I can't seem to find the answers too, hope some one can help me out here or point me in the right direction. I have a clarion MAX685bt & NAX980HD I want to put in a 2010 Non SSS GSR.

1) Do I need AUX RCA's input on my head unit to keep the AUX functionality in the lower center dash? (haven't taken anything apart yet so I don't know if the cars AUX function is wired through some harness).

2) Will the steering wheel volume/track controls still work with a aftermarket head unit?

3) Is the Mito-02 only used for cars with the Rockford systems?

4) Do you need to supply power to the head unit or does it pick it up through the cars wiring harness?

5) I know for a fact that this head unit needs to see the speed signal wire in order for the GPS to work (apparently some don't), is there a line already wired to the cars stereo wiring harness or do you have to pull out the speedometer and tap off the VSS wire there?

Thank you,

i don't know all the answers but here is wut i know:
1) ???
2) You have to purchase an adapter for the steering wheel controls to work. PAC makes then specific to the brand of head unit you purchase. see example here: http://www.amazon.com/PAC-SWI-PS-Ste...8078808&sr=8-1
3) Yes. this replaces the car specific wiring harness for SSS package (you don't need both)
4) Power is received through the wire harness. No external power supplies are needed.
5) Since I can't post a thread from evoxforums i'll just pm you the thread (i'm a noob on here still, lol)

Hope this helps somewhat.

The AUX in piece in the cubby is wired into the vehicle harness. If you want to retain these, and have AUX-IN ability on your head deck, you will need to cut these from the vehicle wiring harness and solder RCAs to the wires from there.

And the appropriate PAC SWI for this application is the JACK. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P7CD44

Thanks for the help fellas!

mrMTB, what is the difference in those two pac swi's? Also, if the AUX is wired through the cars harness then why do you need to cut/solder any wires?

Hey dude I saw your pm but was freaked out by your zero posts (at the time) and that you said you saw a picture of my GPS (I don't think there is one online). Anyways, good luck with the project and post some pics. Not too many Clarion folk out there

p.s. be sure to mount the navi horizontally. If you mount it vertically the gyro sensor doesn't work right and the navi won't detect sudden changes in direction.
If you somehow saw a picture of mine, it would have been vertical. I learned the hard way...

The steering wheel interfaces are different depending on the target head unit. The PAC SWI-PS is specific to the wired remote commands that are used in the Pioneer and Sony head units. The PAC SWI-JACK is used for JVC, Alpine, Clarion, and Kenwood.

Because there is no provision on the wiring harnesses available for our vehicles to output those through the harness (or at least nothing that I've found). It's a simple procedure, and if you're going to loose sleep over cutting something on the stock harness, then buy another RCA cubby adapter and take the one installed on the harness and secure it behind your dash. The one that came installed in the factory NAV units has video as well as audio RCAs...

ahh I gotcha, I'll just hard wire them in. I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron.

Haha no worries man. I rarely post on the forums so I never have a high post count. Yah I like this deck its pretty solid, have you updated your maps at all? I've been meaning to look into that but it keeps slipping my mind.
