Access back side of rca plugs?
The aux-in is actually a little box that's installed from the outside (where you are) to the inside of the dash (where you aren't). It's held in by little prongs on the "other side" (the inside) of the dash.
There are two ways to get at it:
The way that won't break anything:
1a. Remove the stereo,
1b. Reach your hand in, down behind the dash and sweeze the box (no giggling!) while wiggling it and pushing it out.
The way that might break something:
2a. Get a pair of fine, flathead screwdrivers (like a set of the little "fine work" type)
2b. From the outside of the dash, jam one in above the box, fitting it in between the box and the surrounding.
2c. Jam the other in, the same way beside it.
2d. Push one up and one down, pulling the top of the box towards you with a thumbnail. Once it's come out more than a little, you'll see the prong.
2e. Repeat 2b-2d with the bottom of the box, making sure that the top doesn't lock back in as you're wiggling the bottom (no giggling!).
(Note: I haven't done it the way in #1. That's theoretical)
Once the box is out (it's still held in by its cable), the box is held together with one tiny screw and friction. It's got a little printed circuit board inside it. Look at it carefully and very carefully figure out where it's safe to drill. Carefully. You can do nothing a million times without breaking anything, but doing it wrong once will mess it right up.
(Note: That thing you're doing I didn't do. I just chucked everything in the box and cut out the jacks-slash-enlarged/reshaped the resulting hole to fit a USB cable for an aftermarket stereo. The original cable, if memory serves, ducks into the wiring harness, so I rolled it up and left it)
