Audio Suggestions for my 2008 Evo X MR

I just purchased a 2008 Evo MR and it has the stock sound system in it; not the RF system.

I would like to get a great CD face/touch screen...I am not sure whether or not it would be move expensive if it can play DVDs or movies using my iPhone but that would be a cool feature. Also I'd like Bluetooth to play my iPhone music. If there is any way to be able to install a back up camera view without having it cost an arm & a leg, then that would be really cool. I don't know how much all of these things would cost (thinking over 1k for sure, which is ok) but if anyone could give ball park range costs that'd be cool. Thanks!

Congrats on the purchase! I have a pioneer z130 and love it. There was a pioneer in classifieds a couple of days ago that looked like a good deal. I don't know the person posting but I'd say check that out.

daaaaaaamn I was just about to recommend that same one….Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT all day bro! As for sound system I'd just try to find someboy who's parting out the RF system instead of adding something blg and clunky. The X is already heavy enough

Nice recommendation. I looked at the Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH on Crutchfield.com ... it looks awesome. Any idea how much this would cost to have put in and about how long it would take?

Would I need to get additional speakers, other than what is in my current stereo system stock. Because I do not have the RF system.

I just put an AVIC in my GSR (F700BT). The Z-series is cool, but there are more aftermarket software options for the F-series. Food for thought.

You dodged a HUGE bullet by getting the basic stereo system. There should be no amplifier to bypass, which is a royal PITA. I have Alpine Type-E (same as Type-S minus a metal gasket) connected directly to my navigation unit. The sound is perfect, and I gained no weight in the process. The entire package cost about $350 for EVERYTHING.

So you paid $350 for what exactly? I like Alpine a lot.

A Pioneer AVIC-F700BT (with custom software to display AFR, boost, knock, etc.) and 4 6.5" Alpine Type-E component speakers. The navigation unit was used, but it came without a scratch on it, with the iPod cable, and with a usable harness. I have an Alpine 350W amplifier and a JL Audio 12W3V2 that I might put in the trunk and take out for track days.

The Scosche dash kit was like $50. I forgot about that. I also had to buy adapters for the speakers for $20.

But yeah, I would wire the speakers directly to an AVIC H/U. The power is more than enough from the internal amplifier. I dare anyone to turn my radio all the way up, close the windows, and sit in the car for 5 minutes listening to music. It is pretty darn loud.

Wow that seems pretty cool. Do you have pics of what it looks like? Seems like a great setup. The Pioneer AVIC-F700BT is listed for around $900 by itself; so what did it all cost?

I checked out pics of the Pioneer ... does it play DVDs?

I paid $250 for a used one on eBay. It was perfect, though. I don't have pictures of the gauges, yet, because I still have to install the ZT-2 which will supply the inputs. Finding time to weld on a new bung, have everything ceramic coated, reinstall the DP, ceramic coat a new exhaust system, etc. is difficult, ATM.

It plays DVD's, and most of the software "Hacks" for the F700BT have video in motion. Mine even has 3 different sets of maps (Garmin, Tom-Tom, and iGo).

If you do get a Z-series, let me know. I will try and walk you through modifying it to have custom maps and everything. I am also pretty sure that it is possible to run EvoScan or something similar on that platform. If not EvoScan, I have something that works. Good luck, man. I would look around eBay for navigation units. You should find something. I will try and dig up the link for the $100 set of E-type speakers. I can tell you that they were real, despite the ridiculously low price.

I saw that Sony has a nice touch screen HU for $549.99 on Crutchfield that another forum member recently purchased for his car....Instead of dropping over 1k on something that seems similar...(Pioneer series listed above).

Any suggestions on what I should get that will give me the ability to use my iPhone for mirroring sound/app/video, have bluetooth audio/call, and have an HD display? Thanks.
