Passport Radar Hardwire Remote Switch

Thought I'd share my remote switch for my radar detector. My first attempt failed miserably (cut the hole way too big). Then IKT offered to help out. Much props. It turned out great. I think it looks pretty clean. Sorry about the phone pics...didn't know they were going to be sideways.

Nice job on the remote wire. I did something similar to my STI on the dash with one of the dead buttons. It looks OEM.

And hell yea, Blendmount FTW.

Sweet. Can't wait to see those. Yeah, the remote came out real well. Looks like they are "suppose to be there".

Im actually planning to do this in the next few weeks. Two questions for you:
-I know you used a fuse tap wire right?
-Did you have to splice it to get power from the fuse tap and a third wire running to the silencer button?
-Last but not least, did you have to trim the silencer button to slide it in? Or was it a direct fit in there?

Thanks a lot man, I really want to do this soon, I hate the big cable over my radio...Im just not sure how the wiring is involved and am a bit nervous...

I fabbed that whole thing for him, i used an OEM switch blank, drilled the proper holes, disassembled the Escort switch and remounted the internals into the modified switch plate. On the other side of that assembly is the switch plug exactly as it came from Escort. The top logo you see is as I removed it from the Escort switch. I mounted that to the top of the factory plug, and then ran the LED lights from the bottom

I don't sell them or make them regularly, but if you just need some help or want to know the part numbers for the switch blank, I'd be happy to help you with your own DIY

The Smartcord Direct wire kit from passport only has two leads. The wire for power has an inline fuse in it already. A simply wire tap was used to attach it to the cigerette lighter. The ground wire was just attached to an existing nut used for ground.

This. IKT took apart the actual remote mute button assembly and fitted the whole thing to a blank/dummy switch that the OEM uses to cover the unused holes in the switch plate. I've seen others just dremel out the existing hole and slide the entire Passport mute/remote button assembly into the switch plate itself. Both would be a clean install, but I think this version is a bit cleaner since the remote mute button assembly in its original form is angled a bit.

If you do not car about the LED lights on the remote mute button assembly, you could just get an ebay remote hardwire kit that has a simply push button for the mute; and attach that button to a blank switch already on the switch plate.
