Another Evo X MR "Works P2 Flash and Tune"

Like tlr9, I too had my EVO X MR flashed and a custom tune performed after MOD. Pete and Dave from Works, and Edwin and Robert from EDO Performance worked tirelessly on several cars with owners patiently watching. It was a long day and night for everyone, but well worth every minute of it. The pride these individuals put into their work, the way they treat their customers and the care they show while working on the cars is simply top notch.
I recommend them highly.

Now for the good stuff:

•With zero mods to my MR, the P2 flash alone produced 270 hp and 292 torque on the Dynapack. A 46 hp improvement over the base 224 wheel hp (1).

•The custom tune increased the output an additional 18 hp, for a total of 288 hp and 309 torque.

•A/F ratio was really rich, below 10.5 across the power band. The Works P2 flash and custom tune are still conservatively on the rich side... I like that, even though it probably could make a little more power if it were leaner. Better safe than burned up!

•Although the dyno gains are great, as a daily driver it’s the drivability improvement that really makes the difference. The engine is much more responsive and the car accelerates much better from a dead stop... I’m stoked by the improvement!

Additional benefits:

•On my routine drive to and from work, (all on city streets, lots of stop and go) the mileage has improved from 14-15 mpg to 18-19 mpg... a nice improvement, I’ll take that!

•Combined city/highway mileage is slightly better also, about a 1-1.5 mpg increase.

•I have attained 25.5 mpg for steady speed freeway driving with an average speed of 60 mph. To do this I used the cruise control set at 65mph for 350 miles continuous. I haven’t had an opportunity to recheck since the flash using this method, but I can say, that the mileage seems to be about the same based on shorter trips with similar average speeds.

About the TC-SST:

•So far so good! At this level of performance there are no apparent negative side effects.

•Trans operation is crisp in all modes.

•Just sit back, hold on, push down on the pedal and smile a lot!

I too had my car done over at EDO on Saturday and thanks to the professional cerw at EDO and from Works, the car came home w/ 292 WHP. But more importantly, driveability is as good (well actually better) as stock.
AFR went from an overly rich 9.5 at most RPMs to an optimized 11 or so to 1. Not too lean, and not too rich.
For some reason, my car didn't take the P2 flash too well and Pete spent extra hours and time fine tuning the tune on my car to make sure boost stay close to 22 PSI all the way from low RPM to redline.
Here're the numbers:
Baseline w/ custom single tip cat back and OEM air filter: 242 HP
As above but with HKS drop in Hybrid filter: 247 HP
As above with P2 flash and no tune: 280 HP
As above with custom tune: 292 HP

The 12 HP gain with the tune is misleading as without the customer tune, the car wasn't holding boost at lower RPM so the gain was only at beyond 6K. That's where the custom tuning of Pete from WORKS come in, and he was able to bring the boost up to close to 22 PSI all the way from low to high RPM. So I would highly recommend getting a custom tune especially if you had an MR.

So no actual baseline pull when the car was on the dyno pre-flash?

sorry to break the news to you guys but you have to know that a dynapack is going to read higher than any other dyno, besides a dyno jet. Why?? Your wheels are off!!! No drivetrain loss through the wheels on a dynapack. So your numbers might read 5-7% higher.

The rotational inertia of of wheels causes 5-7% of total drive train power loss? Jeebus - I never new that.

This is the best time to get tuned. There's virtually no interruptions, and the tuners can focus on getting the most out of the car. It's also the best time to test it on the road.

Nice numbers guys, good to see the MR guys finally starting to move beyond stock.

Yeah, it would have been nice to have, if not for any other reason than to post here. However, as it turned out there was an ill IX on the dyno that took the techs a long while to get right. (Oh but they did, how sweet it is!) One real happy customer for sure.

None the less, I was waiting along with tlr9 for our turns at the dyno, so to expedite the process I agreed to forgo the base run. Check the time on my plot; I didn't leave there until after 1:30 a.m. tlr9 probably saw the sun come up!
Anyway I already had the Speed Tracker base data for my own comparison.

To that end, Speed Tracker measures acceleration time and vehicle speed using the vehicle's OBDII interface. Once you plug in all the numbers, for example: vehicle weight, gear ratios, tire size, etc... The software calculates hp base on the acceleration, speed v time. It's a poor man's dyno! Coincidentally the numbers from the speed tracker and the dynapack were within 8 whp.
It's far from perfect but a great tool just the same!
