When to Tune

When is it worth the $$$ to tune your car? Currently I have intake, catback exhaust, uicp, and ebc done to the car. I know boost can be adjusted thru tunes. With shops charging on average $600-$750 for dyno tune, I'm not sure if it's worth that amount of $ for it right now. WWJD?

Only you can answer that question. Some even get the stock vehicle tuned while others wait to get several bolt-ons or just an intake. Shops don't charge 600-750 for a tune. A tune is more like 300-400 unless you have a crazy or wild setup (which you don't). You are more so paying for a license or the EMS ALONG with custom dyno tuning charges.

Hmm, that guy must've been very sarcastic in your sig. It does not matter how "crazy" one's setup is. An Ecutek tune will be $750. An Ecuflash custom tune would typically be around $350, plus dynotime if you are dynotuning. And to answer your question OP, yes, the tune is 100% worth it and should get one asap. You aren't getting the full potential of the mods until you get the tune.

A tune is always a good idea when you modify a turbo charged vehicle. The stock rom image is not designed for a car with modifications and will not run properly or safely when you have changed intakes for example.

In order to provide saftey and maximized performance a tune will compensate for your parts.

The beauty about certain tuners, they usually charge around 500 the first time (Open Stock ECU tune) and any time after they give you breaks (maybe 350), but only if you go back to the same tuner of course.

Here are some rates:

Pro EFI $650

AEM EMS $650

Ecutek $650

Open ECU $500

COBB $500

Note: They're pretty much the same price across the board, well for the Northeastern section that is.

Well I'm really excited. With a bit of begging, I'm going to get my car tuned tomorrow just in time for my trip to Chicago. Last time I got my car Dyno'ed I was at 280 awhp / 259 ftlb at 19.5 psi. Looking forward to what tomorrow's number's will bring after the tune.

You have huge potential with tuning over the stock tune.

We achieved +50whp +50tq with the ZChip alone at STOCK BOOST.

We achieved +107whp/+106wtq on our own Evo X with ZChip + MBC on a stock car.
