Question Question about the AP and boost

I had someone tell me that you can control the boost via the accessport and the oem ecu. My question is: What all is required for me to do this? Do I need anything besides this and the deletion of the oem boost pill?

The AP maps raise the factory boost targets that the ECU uses so, in that sense, the AP does increase the boost...but it does not "control" the boost if you were thinking that you can use the AP as a boost controller and set the boost to whatever you want.

So what would be the ideal method to control boost?

So does that mean that the evoflash software is the only method to control the boost via the oem ecu?

I think there might be a misunderstanding here...

With the AP (as with EcuFlash) you can alter the boost targets and wastegate duty cycles to effectively raise or lower the boost that is generated. While it's not as easy as with a standalone electronic boost controller that you set to a certain pressure and let it figure things out for you, you can be just as effective doing it through the ecu.

Since you have an AP, you would not want to install a boost controller unless you are planning on getting a custom tune for it (which I recall from reading that you are) because you will remove the ecu's ability to handle that.

Don't use the MBC. Just use the AccessTuner Race software and alter boost with the stock boost control system. That software is free with the AP.

The complete answer to your question is multi-tiered. In short, yes, you can control boost, not with the AccessPORT itself, but with the AccessTuner software tools. Either your ProTuner can alter boost settings with their Protuner tools, OR if you so choose to use AccessTuner Race you may do this yourself.

However, as a few people have indicated, simply turning the boost up is an incomplete tuning strategy. You will need to compensate for increased boost by increasing fuel delivery and altering timing. This is generally what we refer to when we are discussing tuning strategies.

More boost is a great thing, it can make more power and increase performance, but we also have to compensate for this increased airflow with more fuel, otherwise you will experience lean conditions and knock which could harm your engine.

That said, there are several different ways to increase your car's performance with the AccessPORT. As you may know the AP comes loaded with "off the shelf" maps that will give you a nice increase in performance over stock. The next option is contacting one of our tuners for an "E-Tune." This is a more aggressive map that will give you more performance over the off the shelf map. Or you can go for a dyno tune which will give you the most performance, this is also generally the most expensive option. However, all three of these methods will result in more power, but also it will be safe and reliable power.

We have a complete list of ProTuners at www.cobbtuning.com or you can contact one of our Premier Facilities, Surgeline Tuning in Portland, OR (www.surgelinetuning.com) or COBB Tuning, Plano, TX.
