Somebody (not me, I know too little) needs to write a "quick start guide"! This is marketed to the general public but requires an intimate prior knowledge of EvoScan to setup! Simple things like you need to populate the empty "ROM" folder on the SD card or how to locate and install the correct definitions and the fact that you must modify the gauge txt files!

It is a GREAT product, one I would not be without now that I got it working with the help of this thread, (still playing with "Gauge.txt" file), but it took me weeks (months but that's a different story) of confusion and groping on the dark...what a PIA! Noobs like me be WARNED.

I want to buy this very bad but I am nervous about taking the plung as I am clueless on the setup.

Anyone here have a quick how to process of setting this thing up. Does it power from the 2.0 cable? How exactly does this work thanks!

It gets it's power from an "accessory" outlet that plugs into the classic cigarette lighter.

I found it very easy to setup. I've even posted my gauges somewhere.

Hamish continues to update the software for these. I haven't even updated mine in a long time. I still need to update my software. I use this thing every day and absolutely love it. I don't know how I could live without it.

If I order how long will it take to come in. I am not worried about the gauges looking all crazy just want to see them. I already have the cable so it should only be $317? Does it come with the memory card and USB stick I have seen in the pictures?

My unit arrived in less than 10 days, together with a memory card and card reader and cables that I ordered extra.
If you already have cable, you only need the device.

Fine, why don't you write up a "quick start" guide as I suggested earlier then?

Now that I got it working I would not would not want to be without it either but getting it to work by researching the forum and just plain randomly trying things was a major PITA, anything but intuitive!

You know, something for us buffoons (and I'm not the only one) that had no idea that the data.xml file has to be changed to match your specific car, that there is an empty ROM folder on the card that needs to be populated with something, and basic wiring (the "Y" cable can be connected 2 ways). Even the gauges do not work out of the box without manipulation, hell I did not even know there was a "gauge.txt" file as there are no instructions. I am still trying to get the circular bar gauge to work, I had to add a needle pointer to the GTR gauges as a stop-gap.

The EvoScan windows version has a couple of primers by third parties and if the GPS stanalone came with an advisory like "Must have prior tuning experience and be familiar with "EvoScan" sw before setting up this device" on tne site I would have nothing to ***** about but no, it is marketed both on the site and in threads here on this forum as a stand alone device for those just wanting a gauge display and thinking this product was pnp..

I answered that in my earlier post, I have not the knowledge. If I did I would have found it as "easy" to set up as you guys you have.
I did not mean to offend but apparently my wording and abruptness has done so in this non-verbal forum, I do appreciate all the help you have given me and others on the forum.

Thanx,

Paul

Why YouTube? It would not be my first thought in searching for a setup guide. A simple writeup with a picture of the connections on this forum would more than suffice, it would be GREAT!

Thanx,

Paul

I agree... and the evoscan forum would be a fine place to host it as well.
