Cobb AP Stage 1 reflash @ 600 miles?
Cobb AP Stage 1 reflash @ 600 miles?
Dumb question. I searched and was unable to find an answer. Just as long as I don't beat on the car and continue to break it in properly is it okay to reflash the ECU with the off the shelf Cobb stage 1 map while the car only has a little more than 600 miles on it?
It's probably fine, but if you're not going to drive it hard, then why not wait til you have 1000 miles on the car, do an oil change, and then reflash? Doesn't hurt to be patient and make sure everything on the car is broken in and working okay (engine, transmission, etc) before modding.
Makes sense. I want mostly to use to security mode right now. I guess I can flash it to base stage 1 map and then run the stock realtime map. Its a matter of reflashing the new ECU. Just trying to make sure it does not affect anything.

Any tuning that i do for the first 3,000 - 5,000 or so miles will be stage 1 cobb and no more. Beyond that, I will go all out. Imma gonna flash the ECU around 800 - 1,000 miles to stage 1. I've been driving her like a baby and only hit boost hard a few times. I see no harm in flashing it if i'm not going to use the boost... Though i will be tempted to
your missing the point.
basically - anything that is going to break, you want it to break NOW, before you flash it.
that way you will have 0 problems with warranty..
so go out and drive her hard....

Well said! You don't want to have the car modded in case anything breaks (any factory defect). Drive it hard and enjoy the stock X before reflashing down the road. The security mode of the Cobb won't prevent someone from flat bedding your car out of there anyway...

I'm talking about an off the shelf stage 1 flash here guys.... Thats barely a modification. Its not like I am throwing on a stage 2 or 3. Regarding the security I do realize they can flatbed, but its better than nothing, especially here in NJ. I have decided to wait until 800 to 1000 miles to reflash it. Thanks for all of the advice.
As tephra said, I'd just hold off for warranty reasons too, if you're at all concerned about that. Better to go in bone stock than ANY mod, flash or bolt ons.
That said, I had a cat back + test pipe exhaust on under 200 miles, but hey

Wouldn't the best option be at least getting the AFR's in check on a new motor? I never liked the idea of my new engine running pig for the first few hundred miles of it's life. You can always flash back to stock right?
Yes, I can easily reflash to stock using the Cobb AP. The warranty is good, but if something breaks and its not covered, I will have to deal with it. Thanks for the advice everyone. I was expecting to get mixed answers.
